I have been a military spouse for 31 years until my husband's recent retirement. I have been connected to the San Dieo Armed Services YMCA through my husband's position as Regional Commander. I have never seen an organization run so well that has helped so many in all those years. The volunteers are dedicated and the net the Armed Services Y casts is huge. I have always been impressed with Paul Steffens and his staff. Sharon Hering

I have volunteered for this outstanding organization for many years. Not only are they caring and sensitive to the needs of our military families, but they always go the extra mile to provide not just necessities but to make it fun, especially for the children.. Under the superb and innovative leadership of Paul Steffens, they provide critical support to the military who courageously defend our nation and their families. Their programs and services provide so, so much to the families of active duty and deployed military members .. I am proud to be affiliated with San Diego's ASYMCA Just go on line and take a look at the vast array of supportive activities provided.

I have seen the work the San Diego Armed Services YMCA of the USA has done for the local military personnel. They work hard and are always upbeat, doing so much for the families of those deployed, offering support and activities. They do so much with so little. Paris De Perro

absolutely dynamite, full of energy and ideas. They work very hard and provide a wonderful support staff for the enlisted military spouse and their families, especially when the spouse is deployed, which is so often.

After 26 years of active duty and 12 years as a contractor on site with the US Navy overseas, I have seen tremendous support and service to military families that the Armed Services YMCA has provided around the world. Now having lived in San Diego for 6 years and been involved with the local ASYMCA, I am certain that the San Diego ASYMCA is the flagship branch of this outstanding organization. Its leadership and staff are thoughtful, sensitive, and creative. Together with their enthusiastic cadre of volunteers they provide critical support to the military men, women, and families who selflessly defend our country. The family outreach and social services that they provide to the families of active duty and deployed military members and their families should be a model for all service organizations.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing them raise funds in a measured and efffective manner, groom and develop a mature staff of professional administrators and social service providers, and deftly manage a large group of volunteers for a variety of activities at a various sites.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do whatever is necessary to retain the high quality professionals who now serve as part of the San Diego Armed Services YMCA.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

watching the positive impact this organization has had on the lives of young military men and women and their families as they serve their country.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

intelligent, thoughtful, well educated and enthusiastic. Because they employ many military spouses, the experience a high turnover rate in both their paid and volunteer staff, the manner in which they train replacements is truly outstanding.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide social services to the active duty men and women of the US military in a manner that would be appropriate to the service that they provide to our country.

Ways to make it better...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The organization is always ready to meet military family needs. They step out of the box to always find a way solve unique family problems. Standard programs meet all family needs and their special programs, like their annual Father Daughter Dance are wonderful.
