I am a couponer. I help the packers by sending them coupons I do not use.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my association with packers for packages.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do whatever is necessary to make it more visible to people who could donate, contribute, or provide support.

I found this site 2 months ago and am totally addicted!! I wanted to find a way to support American troops in harm's way and this site is an EXCELLENT vehicle for doing so. I was able to find a unit deployed to
Afghanistan from my state. I wrote a letter to the soldier contact listed on the
site. We have exchanged a few e-mails and I just sent him and his group a care package. I guess the best thing about the site is that there are so many ways to search for a contact and, via the profiles and updates they write, you really get to know and understand their needs, living conditions, etc. and can hand-pick who you decide to send items to so stuff isn't just going to one big organization that "promises" to distribute your goods. Also, I have found the site to be EXTREMELY organized, efficient, informational and safe. I am amazed at the amount of info they handle and, on top of that, personally respond to e-mails!! I don't think I could have found a more effective site!!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Receiving e-mails from the soldiers I have sent letters to. They say mail call is the best part of their day, but let me tell you that getting an e-mail from a soldier contact immediately puts a smile on my face...even before I read it!! In addition, this site and the info provided has really helped me see the war and our soldiers in a different light (that's a good thing)!

In the 2 months I've been involved with this organization, I have not found one thing I would change. I am amazed at all this organization does and how smoothly it is operated. I just can't say enough good things about it!!!

Unsure

How likely is it that you would recommend that a friend donate to this group?

Definitely

How likely are you to donate to this group again?

Definitely

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?

I've written to a couple soldiers in previous conflicts, but with the tight security surrounding this war it was hard to find a way to communicate. I actually found the site accidentally (I was doing an on-line search for something else). However, when I read about the site, I knew this was my chance to contact as many soldiers as possible to let them know they have my thanks and support for what they are doing.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

The site asks that if you use it, you make a donation. I make a monthly donation as part of my responsibility keep the site up and running.

What would you tell others about this organization?

I would tell them to absolutely go on-line and check it out. I stress that you send stuff to an actual soldier and that they promise to distribute it to those who need it most so everything you send is put to use. I also would tell them that this site is a great way to learn about the war in a way the television news doesn't tell you. I have certainly become more sympathetic towards our troops and I encourage everyone I talk to to join me in helping out!!

Marty and his wonderful group make it possible for us to reach out to our Troops and show them our support! The anysoldier.com website is easy to navigate and one easily finds all the necessary information. I 100% recommend AnySoldier for anyone looking to show their support to our brave men and women!

Knowing that the Horn family has such a deep personal relationship with military personnel makes it feel very family-like. They do this because they care about a deployed person who may not have family support. Our letters become life lines for some and it is a great feeling being able to help someone in harms way.

Marty has a personal connection with each deployed person who signs up. He watches over them on this website. He watches for information that should not be made public (such as location or # of persons at a camp). He keeps it clean and very professional.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

getting to know deployed men and women. Without this website, I could not have gotten names of deployed folks. Since writing them and sending packages, I have met 4 wonderful young people who were deployed. It changed my thinking of the war and gave me great hope for the future.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them the money they need to continue a great work. Thank you Horn family!!!!

Any Soldier offers the opportunity for everyone to support our military personnel by sending care packages or simply writing letters or sending a card to service members deployed all around the globe. Their website (warning: HIGHLY addictive!) gives you the chance to choose the service branch, the number of servicemen and women represented by their volunteer contacts, the country in which they are deployed, and by reading the contact's posted information, know what items they need. If you are on a tight budget (and who isn't these days?) you can request an address just to send a note of support. The same family has run this website since its inception; donations are requested and appreciated, but not required; and the website offers a forum where supporters can share ideas and ask questions. This charity gives the most variety in levels of support for our military. I've made many lasting friendships over the years, both with other supporters and with military members who have benefited from the Any Soldier community.

I have been a dedicated supporter of AnySoldier.com for several years now. This organization allows us to choose a unit based on size, military branch, home state, and/or ratio of men to women. The postings from the volunteer contacts vary in the depth of information as to what they do and what they need, but they allow us as supporters to choose the units we feel we can best help based on our own resources. Marty Horn runs the site with, um, dare I say, military precision? He is always quick to answer questions and guards his contacts' security like the MP he was. The site provides many extra features to help both the military contacts and the people who choose to help them, including a Forum where the supporters can talk to each other, offer suggestions, pass on tips on what to send, how to send, and where to find good deals on items the units want or need. While I am aware there are other sites that allow us to adopt a single service member, AnySoldier is the only one that allows us to adopt a unit of our choice (of over thousands of volunteers). I label myself a Donor since I do occasionally donate funds to keep the website running, although the most important donations are the items sent to the service members I choose to support during their deployment. As soon as "my" unit rotates back home, I'm right back on AnySoldier to pick out a new unit to adopt.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The emails from deployed service members, thanking me for thinking of them, reminding them that we care about them, and sending them food, clothing and gear that they want or need.

I feel that the least I can do to support those who defend our country and allow Americans to live free is to support them back. Any Soldier is a wonderful user friendly site and process. It offers you as much or as little as you want in ways to help those deployed. I have met some great people and cannot help but feel wonderful everything I send a package or receive word from one of them. The deployed men and women are so appreciative. The website and facebook page make it easy and offer support by allowing others to connect and answer questions.

I can honestly say that Any Soldier has changed my life. This is a WONDERFUL organization that helps so many soldiers. You get the opportunity to select soldiers to support. Since Feb. 2011 I along with my family, church family and co-workers have been able to ship almost 800lbs to our troops who are serving our country on foreign soil. Any Soldier allowed us to do this. I can not say enough wonderful things.

Anysoldier is a charity that allows you to pick a request from American soldiers serving in combat and send them a care package. Sometimes they want specific things that are hard to get where they are (snack foods from home, baby wipes, etc) and sometimes it's just a request for a letter or card from home to cheer up their day. We've been participating for several years now. My children help me decide which requests we're going to fill, go shopping with me for the items, we write a letter about what's going on in our lives at that moment and then they help me pack up the box and mail it. It's a good opportunity for me to talk to them about the sacrifices the troops are making, and how even though they chose this life it's hard to be so far from home for a long time. Sometimes we get letters or emails back from the troops which make my kids so excited. In fact, my daughter is bringing one of them in for show and tell next week. They love to tell their classmates and teachers about how we send things to the soldiers. I really can't say enough good things about Any Solider, I sincerely feel like we get back so much more than the little bit we are sending over to the troops.

As I mentioned earlier, my kids (ages 5 & 6) are very aware that there are American soldiers serving far from home. They feel good being able to send them pictures they've made and a box of snacks or games to cheer them up. Any letters or emails we get back are always greeted with a great deal of excitement and cherished. It's hard to quantify, but the goodwill we get back is so much greater than the money that we spend on the care packages.

I really can't think of anything, they are doing a great job in my opinion.

I'm the daughter of a career Air Force man and feel a strong connection to military families. I'm lucky that my dad never had to serve in combat, and it makes me feel good to help those serving in combat in the little way I can.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

We try to make small donations year round, but we tend to do more this time of year so the troops will get a few extra treats in time for the holidays.

What would you tell others about this organization?

Really fantastic way to support the troops, even sending a letter or card is sincerely appreciated by the troops.

Love this non-profit. Easy to get involved, 99.9% of all costs associated go directly to recipients, rewards are received by both the sender and the recipient, and I love sending directly to a military person items they might need or a letter to brighten the day and to know how much it means and to get a thank you back is the icing on the cake. I especially like sending a bit of home to those in austere conditions. Great community involvement project for kids and schools. An opportunity to learn of other cultures as well. Those camel spiders in the middle east catch the kids attention and make a great segue into current events, geography, social sciences etc. Does lots of good for so little time, effort and money.
