I became a user almost at the onset of AnySoldier.com back in 2003..
To me there is no greater program in my estimation for sending packages, cards & letters to any of our military in harms way.. I have made many a good friend of Airmen, Marines, Sailors and Soldiers and members of there
families over the years... Having a contact name to choose from the large list makes it so much easier and fun to find someone you want to be in contact with and in many cases a forever friend.. Marty and Sue Horn picked up the baton and ran with it when their son Brian was in Iraq in 2003... He kept asking for packages to be sent for him to share with his buddies who hardly ever received mail of any kind... It became apparent they, family and close friends were unable to supply all of Brian's Company... The light bulb came on for a bright idea..... Thus, AnySoldier.com was sborn... As I remember??? in those days it was first called AnySoldier.US... Later all branches had their own pages to list contacts.. The first was AnyMarine.com..... Since those days so very many of our service members have been on the receiving end of some super packages from great Americans all over the US and also many from other countries have hopped on to add to their pleasure...
To me, there is no better organization for those in harms way to sign on than AnySoldier.com and any branch of the military... It's the only program I use... I have no kids, no family of my own in the military...
But I SURE DO NOW..... Thanks Sue and Marty for making my life so very special.... You are the very BEST! Peggy Kane, Fountain Valley, CA

I have been sending CARE packages through the anysoldier site for about 5 years now. I started out with general toiletries etc and responding to special needs. I found a niche with recording TV shows and so far, that's worked pretty swell. I get a kick out of thinking about the folks opening an envelop and seeing a whole season of American Idol! I've also made some good friends from this site...sometimes we stay in touch after they are finished with their deployment, sometimes after they get out of the service. I'm just packing up some Christmas stockings...kind of a pun....I got some Army socks on eBay and stuffed them with snacks, secured them with red velcro ties and a candy cane. I think every little bit of that be will be used.

Although I know these folks don't have a lot of downtime, I would stress to them the need to acknowledge packages and letters. Have alternates or family or friends back home write some simple..."thanks, I got it" notes. I think it decreases participation in the program when gifts are unacknowledged....the senders don't know if they were received or not. And everybody likes a thank you. Plus, after all....nothing that you send is cheap...not after you pay postage :) Marty et al are wonderful.

My husband and I began sending care packages to our grandson and his team in Iraq in 2004. Then, in 2005, we discovered Any Soldier, and began using their program to locate names and addresses of deployed troops that they listed in order to continue sending care packages. They made it so easy to read the requests of the contacts and then just click on the one(s) you wanted to help by fulfilling their requests or just writing to them. We felt like the contacts were extended family, and appreciated the posted updates so that we could stay current even if we never heard personally from them. - Gran

My husband is home after 3 deployments and we're acutely aware of how lucky we are to have him back... and what it means for the other guys and gals still out there.

Every few months, we send a box of goodies to the troops and the Afghan people as a reminder of our blessings.
Anysoldier.com has put us in contact with great soldiers in remote regions who truly need your support. What an awesome program! :)

My husband was made aware of your program while in Iraq and we have contributed to it since he's been back.

In a perfect world, I'd make bigger Priority Flat Rate boxes, but that's USPS anyways. Anysoldier.com is great.

I obtained information regarding Anysoldier from my grand-daughters school newspaper - 5 years ago!!! My sister and I have been shipping every month since then - usually have 2 groups. I am never in the dark regqarding what to ship and not to ship, or how to ship and have only had great results with the mailing kits. A local Drug store jumped on the wagon 4 years ago and has continued to take donations for us in the small town I currently live in - York, SC. I am not sure WHO is the greatest, Walgreens Drugs or the wonderful people in the town who soooo freely give. Praises to the Horns for starting this site- a real blessing to the supporters and to the troops!!!! Even on a couple of occasions it was necessary to contact Marty, his reply was quick and answered my questions fully! I try to spread the word about this site every chance I get. Thank you Marty for all you do!!!

We have had hundreds of emails from the troops we have supported, all so grateful for this site. I am grateful also, that as 1 group returns home, I simply go to the site and c hoose another group with great ease.

I do not know of any changes that can be made. The most difficult thing we have encountered (not often) has been shipping and NEVER knowing if the boxes arrived.

Thanks to AnySoldier I'm able to support Our Troops when and where they Need it!
The sad fact is that most civilians believe that Our Troops are well provided for and they never go without.
While my son was deployed for his first tour in Iraq, he told me that three other Marines NEVER got
ANY mail at all! So I started to send them carepacs when I sent them to my son but once my son got back I knew that there were others in need of support and then I found this site were I'm able to pick Troops that need support. Some people are happy with the yellow magnet on their car but do nothing to support Our Troops! Not Me! Thanks to AnySoldier I can send support to Our Troops where they needed the most. God Bless You! God Bless Our Troops!
Sincerely, Audrey Sharp

Not that I needed any but I got thank you letters and phone calls from troops in Iraq and Afghanistan that received my carepacs and were moved to know that we care and pray for them.

Ask the Troops to be more specific with their needs. Some units don't allow the Troops to ask for anything and we have to guess what to send.

This is a class act. Maintained by folks who understand the military because they themselves have served, it is a site that truly serves the deployed men and women. It provides a way (user-friendly, I might add) that we can connect with our troops. We can send them letters and / or packages and are given information up front pertaining to that particular unit's needs. I have been using this site since 2004 and have sent mail to over 300 troops. I have built friendships with a number of them and have been able to support them through multiple tours. I've even gotten to meet three of them in person, which was a great joy. I work in a school and have involved my students in corresponding, as well. What a mutually beneficial endeavor!

I've gotten lots of positive feedback from the troops supported through this organization, as well as from their families. I have seen my students who received letters back from the troops walk a little taller, thrilled at hearing from genuine heroes.

I have been supporting Maines with care packages since the war started. If you do not personally know a Marine, it is very difficult to send care packages for security reasons. This website has bridged that huge gap between combat servicepeople and the general public without sacrificing the security of our warriors
