Aftering talking to Annie, I realized that her organization was a worth while project and that many people needed to hear more about it. I asked her to send me flyers on her project and she did. Now a community that has little or no access to computers, know her information.

This organization provides a valuable service, of information, suppliers and experts to assist persons faced with cancer and thier families. The information provide on the web site available to all and the information provided by the natural health experts from all over the world is in valuable for cancer patients, especially those who have experience treatment failures using traditional medicine and have exhausted all treatment options other than to wait and die. The information at the conference provides additional safe recognized treatments as another option. Annie has also spent a lot of personal time money and energy help so many in the cancer community many times for free. I consider her knowledgeable and needed organization for the community. She is my mentor and has taught me how to use my illness to expand my advocacy to help other. I wish Annie and all in the cancer community blessing and health Princess

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The Annual Conference

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Fun, Informative and helpful

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide the education to the masses regarding additional cancer therapies and good health practices in general

Ways to make it better...

My experience has always been better

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Maintaining funding during difficult economic times

One thing I'd also say is that...

The menu for the conference was outstanding, the much needed healthy foods were provided during the entire conference. This would be the first time that cancer patients were not provided the usual sugar and starchy products that feed cancer, awsome.

Annie Appleseed is one of the few organizations that is dedicated to providing complimentary and alternative cancer information to the community. In this western world of allopathic medicine it is a blessing to have a leader in the holistic CAM world and Annie Appleseed is just that.

Numbers of studies have shown that social wisdom is worth its weight in gold. Anne's site provides a special kind of social wisdom, developed over years of carefully examining input from cancer patients and resources from all over the world. Its vital that this foundation and web site be recognized, supported, and held up as an example for the right way to make positive impact on our struggling healthcare system, where caregivers struggle with red tape, and have just a few minutes to spend with each patient. Patients, even those with insurance, suffer. My own particular story with Anne's foundation relates to alternative therapies used to improve patient outcomes in stem cell therapies at Stanford Hospital. Stem cell research holds great promise for future cancer treatments. However, what is missing from the research and treatment picture is patient care. Outcomes of stem cell treatment depends a great deal on how well patients can survive the side effects and keep their spirits up while undergoing continued horrendous discomfort and beating the odds. Typical hospital stays are 45 - 53 days post transplant. Most of them, by the time they receive this kind of treatment, have been through chemo/radiation at least once. So its even more important that they receive support for their patient centered challenges, in order that this promising technology is used optimally, now and in the future. The alternative methods we used with patients with autologous stem cell bone marrow transplant at Stanford Hospital enabled our patients not only to recover on average 2 weeks ahead of expected hospital stays, but also to quickly head off fevers, nausea, mucositis, and a number of problems that often lead to failed treatment. In addition, the patients had good spirits. Although we did publish an abstract about our experiences in Psychoneuroimmunology 2003, there is currently not a good vehicle to share the story of these patients with other patients. Anne's site fills this gap. One patient described it as "When you receive a diagnosis of cancer, when they tell you have the big C, its as if you have been hit by a semi truck. The news itself is enough to make your life feel like confetti being tossed up in the air." Its up to the patient to figure out how to pull the confetti back into a new life, with healing. Each person is unique, and our spirit and emotional life are a big part of our healing journey. Anne's site provides a wide range of carefully screen and checked stories to encourage patients and give them control over their healing journey, despite the lack of time our physicians may have for them in their stressed day. More generally, Anne's site provides one stop shopping for anyone with cancer who wants to investigate alternative ways of coping with side effects, treatments, and/or find others who might be emotional or spiritual support. By last count, her site was pointed to by over 5 million people. Its obviously useful. We in the U.S. live in a medical culture where many physicians treat patients only by the books they used in medical school. If you are a thinking individual, and not influenced by politics/money but are rooted in patient centered thinking, Anne's site provides a unique, strategic, and necessary bridge between what our current medical system IS and what it can be. Numbers of studies have shown that social wisdom is worth its weight in gold. Anne's site provides a special kind of social wisdom, developed over years of carefully examining input from cancer patients all over the world. Its vital that this site be recognized, supported, and held up as an example for the right way to make positive impact on our struggling healthcare system. I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

As founder of the Humans Without Borders Project, a volunteer organization to educate the public and health professionals about the science of healing touch, we benefitted from Anne Fonfa's organization in order to meet some of our organizational hurdles.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would increase exposure among funding agents in order to create a steady revenue stream to keep the funding for the web site secure. A 5 year commitment, at this juncture, would support focus on building content.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

quality information and caring at a time when our medical system is a house of cards

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

exceptional, setting new standards for the future of healthcare.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Increase visibility of the website, create web based educational media for public access to health education, create a video series rather like TED but specific to patient centered success stories around cancer, launch a journal, sponsor speakers, etc.

Ways to make it better...

no need to complete this sentence, its been a good experience.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

securing funding so there can be a concentration on content

One thing I'd also say is that...

if more healthcare was organized like this, we would all be better off.

In 2006 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have always been a strong supporter of alternative medicine and although I allowed my doctors to talk me into a lumpectomy, I refused radiation and began a search for information on alternatives to radiation. I believe there is something in nature that will aid our healing process no matter what our disease. The Annie Appleseed website was a godsend. I found information and connections to other websites; everything I had been looking for was there for me. When they announced their first convention, I knew I had to go. I had been seeking information on iodine supplements and on the airport shuttle to the convention, I started talking with two ladies also headed there. One of the ladies began to share her story with me about losing one breast entirely then contracting cancer in the other breast. Rather than another mastectomy, she began iodine therapy which dissolved the tumors and restored her health...just the kind of information I was looking for. This month is four years since I had my lumpectomy...four years in which I have been able to enjoy good health without going through the misery of destroying healthy breast tissue on the outside chance they missed something during surgery. I feel extremely blessed to have knowledge and experience of the work being done by Ann Fonfa. This is a most deserving non-profit!

I am a nutritionist who specializes in helping women with breast cancer create a "cancer hostile" terrain in their bodies to reduce risk of occurrence or recurrence. In this capacity, I have found the Annie Appleseed Website to be an invaluable source of information for me as I work to support my clients in making informed choices about treatments, trials and alternatives. Annie's comprehensive set of resources also helps me to constantly update my own knowledge and skill set in this ever changing field.Bravo to Ann Fonfa and her team for the contributions they are making to both patients and clinicians!

In 1975, I was diagnosed with Malignant Cervical Cancer. I decided to create my own natural healing protocol, instead of a Hysterectomy and other invasive procedures. Within four months of Acupuncture, Herbs, Yoga, Hiking in the Andean mountains of Peru, and Meditation, I retested to find that the cancer was gone. I had a child two years later, who just made me a grandmother. When I met Ann Fonfa, we connected on a very deep level and I knew that I would be in the very best company for learning and teaching others about how to take charge of their own bodies. I have sent many people to her website and even given them her phone number. She is there, present, alive and completely approachable. I know that out health system is in need of great repair and The Annie Appleseed Project is a home for those who are broken and need hope to keep going. The Annie Appleseed program deserves to be supported in any way possible. God Bless Ann

The Annie Appleseed Project has been a godsent. For the past year I have experience a true found respect for Alternative Meds because of Appleseed Founder, Ann Fonfa. Her talents to enlighten people, breast cancer patients or not. Last year Ann Fonta attend the Sisters Network Tampa-Bay Gift for Life Block and was a true gift herself. There was a lady there that I know with BAD eating habit but with the information and insight from Ann I can truly say there is more green foods in her diet today. The Annie Appleseed project is a wonderful program that reaches where theres a need and to whom ever that calls.

Ann Fonfa and her organization, annieappleseedproject.org, have been a source of strength and information to me since I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Not only has her website been a vast source of information and contacts concerning complementary and alternative therapies, as was her second annual convention which I attended this January for the first time, but Ann heself is a constant source of kindness, passion, patience and information. I just came back from attending the NBCC conference in Washington DC and was amazed to see how many people consider her a close friend. She is dedicated to winning the fight against breast cancer for all women and walks her talk. I always give out her cards and recommend her highly.
