I have been involved with many animal organizations over the last decade. I have seen the best and worst. One of the stand out org's is AWP. AWP is run in an organized manner, prepared for growth and ethical in every decision that they make. One example of this is when they desperately needed a horse trailer. They got one. At first it seemed perfect, new looking, even flashy. Before transporting horses in it, AWP had it cleared structurally. The beautiful trailer did not pass. The organization could easily have sold it to another unsuspecting purchaser. But opted not only to junk it, but to have it dismantled so that no one else could sell it and endanger the welfare of a passenger. This kind of integrity is what AWP is all about. Because the organization has the forsight to purchase veterinary insurance they have been able to provide premier health care to thier charges. this is not a wing and a prayer outfit. AWP is a well planned group with careful attention to ethics in everything they do.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The care of Windsor the horse.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It's careful attention to ethics.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

smart and caring, devoted.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help animals and people in a mutually beneficial way, serve to educate, help to train humane officers. all things that they do now, but with more money they could do it on a larger scale.

I have known this charity from its inception. I have an appreciation of their business sense and budget management. The proof of their financial skills is exhibited in that, unlike other charities who are in crisis today and/or have shut down because of our economic uncertainty, this charity is still in business and works within their means. Every board member is a professional within their own line of work, and so together they complement each other on continuing to grow this nonprofit. Over the years I also enjoyed their innovative fundraising ideas, such as "Bark In The Park." It takes a lot of effort and persistence to manage a charity. I commend the whole Board in working together so well, and keeping their eye on their Mission of improving the welfare of animals.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Business practices, watching it grow, adopt animals.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

create one nationwide program.

This is a charity with a well thought out mission to rehabilitate animals and introduce them back into the community, benefiting both the animal and the community. I have been the Volunteer Coordinator for the last eighteen months and know of the effort that goes into getting volunteers to keep this all-volunteer organization operating. All volunteers receive a packet of Standard Operating Procedures and are required to understand EEOC and IRS compliance documents. The accomplishments of this group are performed by a group of dedicated volunteers. Many hours of time are donated to keep this organization running and able to support the animals in residence.

I have been President of the Board of Directors almost since this organization was founded. It has been my pleasure to work alongside the outstanding leaders who comprise the remainder of the Board, as well as other community leaders. We additionally enjoy the continued support of prior Board members. Further, we are graced with a great group of volunteers who possess the varied technical skills required to operate as a charity, while meeting our Mission. Organizational growth has always been based on a business concept to first raise funds needed for operational expenses, prior to bringing in animals. A strong Grant Writing Team is now in place to help reach for our financial goals. Animal Welfare Project is physically based at a professional equine facility where we can continue to expand as funding provides.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Watching it grow from a concept on a desk to a functioning non-profit 501(c)(3) charity --- which continually meets all legal and financial requirements, while assisting in gifting free training to animals in need plus finding them the homes they deserve.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the world! Save more Open Space while creating a safe haven for needy animals, while supporting a full-fledged training facility. Also promote legislative changes for Animal Cruelty while supporting scholarships for Humane Society Police Officers.

I have been with Animal Welfare Project for 4 years and have found it to run on a very professional level. Decisions are made with research and professional input behind them. I have done many events and the volunteers are committed to helping animals and educating the public on the needs of animals. My service dog/therapy dog particapte in school assemblies for Animal Welfare Project teaching children from kindgarden to 6th grade on kindness to all animals and "Be a Buddy NOT a Bully". The children are very attentive and enjoy seeing Ike and learning of what he does to help me stay independent. For anyone who has an interest in helping animals this organization is professional in every way. I highly recommend becoming involved.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Ways to make it better...

I can't imagine anything.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

In these hard economic times it would funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have been with AWP for about a year. I've enjoyed working with our volunteers along with the other board members. I believe in our cause and look forward to continuing our quest to saving and rehabilitating horses and dogs.

I started working with the agency last year and was given a very specific task to accomplish. Although it has taken longer than expected, the support I received while challenged with limited resources, was very positive. I see a tremendous amount of support for this organization by the president who lives and dies to keep it going.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing several animals placed; reviewed the contributions by other members; dedication to Windsor with a significant number of challenges.

I fully support this cause and but would be VERY wary of donating any money to this particular "non profit" The President and Founder of The Animal Welfare Project is sneaky and plotting- motivated more in trying to take advantage of people around her then actually making a difference. Her methodologies and funding practices aren't ethical. She is the woman at the restaurant who eats the entire plate sends it back, claiming something was wrong, and causes a scene while demanding a refund. Most of her board members are given the position and title to improve her ‘ligit’ appearance. Not because they are actually legit. And rarely if at all are they fully aware of who they are working with and what they have signed up for. Her "Past Board Members List" is twice as long as her current Board Member list. Once they learned the truth- they got out. Alternatively, they were booted out as Ms. Adkins didn't need or want them around any longer. Look closely at this site. EVERYTHING is about giving this woman money. It would be interesting to see the her books, which should be a matter of public record, if there are any kept at all. Funds go right into Ms.Adkins pocket.

I was introduced to AWP because of a connection I have with a horse jump company. A visit to their web site convinced me that this was an organization which clearly mirrored my own belief about animal welfare and the benefits derived from retraining "unwanted" horses and dogs so that they could become valuable, contributing members of society. This is an organization whose goals, when reached, will benefit both humans and animals.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In the number of dogs and horses they have found new homes for without the benefit of a retraining facility. If they can accomplish what they have with just an office and a telephone, the sky's the limit once they have a proper facility.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not change a thing.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The feeling of accomplishment that is derived from the completion of even the smallest task and the people I have met.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

All of the people I have met through my connection with AWP are welcoming, friendly and totally committed to AWP's goals.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

save a lot of homeless or unwanted horses and dogs from euthanasia or a life of abuse. It would enable these animals to be retrained to become valuable, contributing members of our society.

Ways to make it better...

I can't imagine how my experience could have been improved.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The lack of adequate funding is the biggest challenge facing this organization.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I'm thrilled to be part of AWP and feel that my contribution, no matter how small, is making a difference.

I have a background in finance and therefore joined Animal Welfare Project as an active member of the Development Department, with a concentration on Charitable Giving. After working with the president I am impressed with the level of professionalism and dedication to the mission. I plan to have a long term relationship with this non-profit and recommend this group to anyone with an interest in supporting the mission.

More feedback...

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Be at the forefront of education regarding: Re-training hundreds of homeless animals instead of being killed due to over population; they'll both serve the public and be re-homed. Also would save hundreds of acres as Open Space instead of being developed
