The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County is a wonderful organization with amazing volunteers that care so much for the animals. Their shelter is immaculate and houses well loved cats waiting for their forever homes. AWLMC also offers a pet food bank for those who need help with cat and dog food anda low cost spay/neuter program. I love being on this team of dedicated volunteers!

Amazing nonprofit running on a shoestring budget. Great dedication and leadership. I am honored to be part of the volunteer team.

I have been a volunteer with AWLMC since its inception as a foster and later as an adoption counselor. We take great joy in caring for our cats in a cage free house more like a home than a shelter. Many of us stop by even when we are not scheduled to work because the cats always put a smile on our face

I started volunteering with the AWLMC in 2007, after having adopted my cat, Lord Greystroke (Grey) from them in 2006. The organization is filled with volunteers who are passionate and knowledgeable about promoting the welfare of cats (and other pets) in the Montgomery County, MD area. Their no-kill cat shelter and adoption center is one of the best I've ever seen. The programs they provide to the community, including low-cost spay/neuter and Chompers petfood bank, are amazing. I recently moved from the area, but still plan to volunteer with adoption counseling and social media affairs as the AWLMC is such a fantastic organization. I'm proud and humbled to be a part of such a wonderful group that is truly making a difference in so many feline and human (and even canine!) lives.

I have been volunteering with AWLMC for about 3 years. It is an amazing no-kill animal shelter. What this small shelter has accomplished should be an example for others out there. The best part is when we find a new home for one of our cat residents. It puts a smile on all of our faces and reminds all of us why we do what we do on volunteer time.

AWLMC has provided homes for many cats (and cats for many delighted people!), provided food, allowing people in financial struggles to keep their cat or dog, decreased the animal population through a spay/neuter program and raised awareness of the continuing problem of homeless animals in Montgomery County. To achieve so much it has to be (and is) a well-run ‘machine’ staffed by incredibly dedicated volunteers. What’s more-it’s FUN! Definitely a winning combination.

I love volunteering with AWLMC. I was warmly welcomed by all the volunteers I encountered when I joined. I love the atmosphere that the cats live in, the nearly cage-free shelter gives the cats a real advantage in finding the right adopters. There are a variety of programs the organization operates to benefit the community and the animals in Montgomery County Maryland. The dedication of the volunteers to ensure the best possible future for the cats is phenomenal. I am proud to support the mission and be counted amoung the volunteers.

This is a wonderful nonprofit run by caring, creative, hard-working men and women. The organization operates a no-kill cat shelter located at 12 Park Ave. in Gaithersburg MD. It holds several adoption events each week and sponsors a free food bank that provides pet food and supplies to pet owners who need assistance to care for their dogs and cats; people who might otherwise have to give up their beloved companions because of financial hardship. AWLMC has a low cost spay/neuter program and holds educational lectures and provides information to the public about how to care for their pets. The organization has no paid staff, only volunteers. I've volunteered for about 8 months and it's been the most rewarding experience I've ever had. I am amazed at how frugal and efficient the organization is, given its small budget. It depends on donations and small grants to operate. It is heart-warming to read stories of cats who are rescued from terrible circumstances, brought to this shelter and adopted by loving families.

I've been volunteering with the AWLMC for about four years in various ways. I love this organization so very much. It is amazing to know the impact we are having on the lives of the cats and people in our community. There is nothing better than reading an update about one of our cats and hearing just how much their new family loves them. This is especially wonderful when that particular cat had a rough background -- was abandoned, hurt, sick, scared, or had lost trust in people. And to read that they are now lap cats that snuggle with their owners every night is frankly...awesome. We have so many great cats at our shelter, and that is obvious as our turnover is incredible! Because we are close to cage-free, our "kids" tend to be more relaxed and comfortable while in the shelter. They are played with, brushed, given manicures, and loved on constantly. And because we are a no-kill shelter, one of a scant few, all of us know that the cats in our care will be so until they find their forever homes. I also love that this is an all-volunteer organization because every single person that gives of their time to taking care of the shelter and the cats is truly in it for the joy and love of animals. We love our shelter. We love our cats. And we are also there for each other. Recently, one of my cats became quite ill. I sent out a request for a pill gun and a water fountain. Within 30 minutes, I had over 10 responses to help. And many more emails of concern. This is a very special organization with a very special mission made up of very special people.

AWLMC is an all volunteer nonprofit that runs a no kill almost cage free cat adoption shelter and a low cost spay neuter certificate program for cats and dogs. It also has a monthly pet food bank to help pet owners under hard economic times provide food for their pet so they can keep it until they are back on their feet again. I have been a volunteer there since 2010 and find my volunteer experience extremely rewarding and believe that each volunteer hour makes a HUGE difference in helping save animals. The friendly volunteers are relentless about helping in a very positive way. Our shelter is the happiest cat house you have ever seen. Our adoption rate is up by more than 60% this year. Although our annual budget is only about $160,000 per year it amazes me that we get so much done with so little money. We are truly the little shelter that can make a difference. Www.awlmc.org
