An Orphans Wish supports a foster home in China for medically-challenged orphans, some of whom are adoptable, most of whom are not. The directors and caregivers in that home provide the things that these orphans would absolutely not receive elsewhere -- the notion that each of these precious lives has VALUE, love, and care on a level that we'd expect for our OWN children.
My child lived at that foster home before he became my son. After bracing myself for the effects of institutionalization, imagine my unspeakable joy at - instead - finding that my son did indeed have (what he considered) "parents" and "siblings" at that home, and a well-developed innate sense of belonging and trust. The people who run the foster home supported by An Orphans Wish are true servants and have devoted their lives to creating hope and a future for "the least of these" in China.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

On the Board, seeing 98% of all funds go directly toward caring for the orphans. As a mother of a adopted child who was cared for at House of Love, witnessing the profound effects that love and care and attention have on an institutionalized child - by supporting that foster home for medically challenged orphans, An Orphans Wish literally changed my child's future, molded his own abilities to love and to trust and to understand the concept of 'family'.

This isn't a true change, but rather a continuation of the vision that An Orphans Wish already has... that is, continue to increase awareness so that funds are available to put programs in place for the older, unadopted children in foster care who 'age out' in their early teens... ie, life skills training, job creation, etc.

Our second daughter lived at the House of Love in the city of Guilin for several months before we adopted her and we are so thankful for the care she received. We were prepared for the possiblity of delays due to institutionalization, but we could tell right away how well she was cared for as she was developmentally right on track. I was also amazed at how well the staff prepared her for the transition to our family and how easily it went for her.

We were able to meet some of her carers briefly afterward and it was so touching to see them hold her one last time smiling, talking and even singing with her.

We have since been sponsoring one of her former playmates through An Orphan's Wish and can see the wonderful progress he has made too.

We receive regular updates on the boy we are sponsoring as well as acknowledgments and thank yous for extra/specific donations. This organization is very good about letting you know the impact your donation is having on the children and you really feel like you are an integral part of their lives.

Encourage more people to get involved, experiencing the personal joy of changing lives and allowing AOW to have an even greater impact on these precious kids in Guilin.

My two youngest children out of 6 are adopted from China. At the time of our adoption and since returning this summer for a visit to their respective orphanages, I have been deeply impacted by the ongoing need of the orphans that remain, waiting and hoping for their forever families. An Orphans Wish is a wonderful organization that allows me to respond to those feelings of wanting to help those needy children with care through the organization and to hopefully facilitate the children to meet up with their forever families.

I receive frequent updates as to how my money is being spent both for tangible items such as washing machines, bedding for the children as well as updates on children that we have sponsored.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Want to expand their visibility so that they could forward their great work to many more orphans.
