I got involved with Amman Imman through my children's school, Sunset Hills Montessori in Reston, VA. My children and their class learned many valuable life lessons and the importance of social responsibility and compassion for others from their fundraising projects and participation in the annual Walk for Water event. They worked very hard at making African artwork, selling custom-made jewelry and fair trade organic products in the school lobby, and completing the Walk for Water to raise over $5,000! The kids learned about the needs of others as they studied Africa. Amman Imman has a wonderful curriculum that also ties into the service project. The Walk for Water event is held at a beautiful setting at Lake Frank, MD where families join together from around the DC area. It was a true bonding experience as we united and covered over three miles during the walk. It was also a healthy way to connect with nature and develop new friendships. I also felt compelled to help and learned about others dedicating their runs by fundraising for Amman Imman. This is another way you can help donate money to build sustainable water resources for the Azawak people. I encourage all schools, parents and anyone to learn more about Amman Imman's mission and how your community can get involved to make a difference in the lives of others much less fortunate.

My elementary-aged children are inspired and deeply connected to children in Niger who lack water. This life-lesson in compassion and action for my children is the result of their school's work with Arianne Kirtely and Amman Imman. Through inventive fundraisers and lessons brought to their classroom at Oneness-Family School in Chevy Chase MD, my children admire Arianne as they do Justin Beiber! Their participation in "Walk for Water," a fundraiser that enables children to walk in the footsteps of their peers in Niger who walk for miles to find drinking water, and the annual "Amman-a-thon," where students perform athletic challenges like bouncing a basketball, jumping rope, hoola hooping and for each dribble, jump and shake of their hips, earn sponsorship money to build wells in Niger, the students learn that they can have an impact on the world and be part of the change that can bring peace and basic human rights to children across the globe. As a parent, I could not ask for anything more. Hats off to Amman Imman for their hard work and commitment to help the people of Niger and for creating such an inventive and meaningful way help solve the world's problems through the engagement of children.
