I am a 42 year old woman living with Stage IV lung cancer. I advocate tirelessly for this disease, as I have learned that anyone can get lung cancer.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I see the public emphasis of the smoking-cessation campaigns undermining the progress in funding research for lung cancer. The over-emphasis on smoking-cessation (which I might also argue the effectiveness of the dollars spent there) actually focuses people on the stigma and the blame, versus working toward effective treatments and a cure. Eradicating smoking, which would make a positive impact on people's health in MULTIPLE areas, would not eradicate lung cancer. I'd still be dying of it...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Not work so hard to remind the public to blame people for their lung cancer...progress is set back because people feel justified sending their money elsewhere and neglecting the disease further. Work as hard on lung cancer as on other lung diseases. Make smoking-cessation programs about more than lung cancer...partner with other organizations for breast cancer, bladder cancer, and heart disease to coordinate smoking-cessation message (ever notice that they don't go out of their way to make that link??).
