Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative gives me a way to use my quilting to help find a cure for Alzheimer's. We have had family members from both sides that have suffered from this horrible disease. Making these small
quilts and seeing them sold or aucitioned off to help raise money gives me a
very satisfied feeling.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

It was exciting when we heard that positive results had come back in a study that AAQI had helped to sponsor that made progress in finding a way to find a cure for Alzheimer's.

I don't know of any changes that need to be made. Ami Simms and other people in charge are making postivie changes and improvements.

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative makes easy and fun work out of securing funds to raise awareness and fund research projects for this disease. You can make a quilt (or seven!), buy a quilt (or seven!), promote the organization to your quilty friends, and encourage your friends and family to buy these little beauties. It's a win-win for all of us.

Reading information about the grants is so rewarding. I love seeing other quilters inspired to donate and buy quilts.

I found the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative during my mother-in-law's 15 year struggle with Alzheimer's. As a quilter, this is the best way I can help contribute to the fight to end this disease. Every year I donate several quilts. There are other ways to donate towards Alzheimer's research, but I have chosen the AAQI as my way to express my feelings and do my small part.

It is so exciting and gratifying to see that my quilts have sold, often for far more than I expected. And to know that the money all goes to Alzheimer's research is wonderful!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Accept larger quilts on a regular basis for auction.

My mother gracefully lived with Alzheimer's form over 12 years -- never a complaint and always a smile. It was difficult to see the disease take over and steal our mother away from us. At the end, we saw the emptiness in her eyes when they used to sparkle.

The AAQI is an amazing
project of which I'm glad to be a part. We (the volunteers) have the opportunity to use our creativity to raise funds for AAQI while also raising the public's awareness of this disease. Each time I finish a mini-quilt, I bring it to work and share it with friends.

Ami Simms is a wonderful woman who inspires the rest of us to share our talents for a great cause. The other volunteers who give their time and talents are also wonderful. I especially appreciate those who do the record keeping (something I absolutely hate to do).

One of my quilts sold at the International Quilt Festival in Houston for over $100 -- what a great feeling to be able to have so much fun while raising money for Alzheimer's research.

In recent years I have been personally involved with a terminal cancer patient, a terminal AIDS patient and a terminal Alzheimer's patient - all members of my extended family. Of these, the most tragic was the Alzheimer's patient! To me, the answer lies in research. AAQI used its finances wisely in supporting research. I am pleased to play a small part in this effort.

Houston at the Quilt show. Their enthusiasm and display attracted much attention to their mini-quilts and Alzheimer's in general.

With so many organizations asking for help via donations of money and such, it can become difficult to pick and choose. As a quilter I am drawn to AAQI of course but even more important is the fact that every penny, every quilt, every donation of any kind goes directly to the "reason" for the organization rather than to people hired at some impersonal call center. It just cannot get any better than that! Fighting this disease is super important now as so many people have started on their downward spiral after diagnosis and need help. Also, it appears that the researchers may be getting close to figuring this disease out and therefore may be able to find a "cure". Money contributed by AAQI will certainly help push this research forward. This is a fine and worthy organization and should be at the top of one's giving list.

With so many worthy charities, it's difficult to decide which to support. Alzheimers is such a miserable disease. It takes away our "humanness". It places an incredible burden on the family, the health care system and the nation. And the numbers are rising fast.
Ami Simms with her
Alzheimers Art Quilt Initiative has brought awareness and raised research funds not by just asking for money, but by using an art form that we love to share.
I don't work in a research lab, or medical field to help find the cure, but I can add my stitches to an image I create to raise money for such a worthy effort. Thanks Ami, and thanks to all the contributors of the AAQI!

When I made my quilt it was in memory of my Mom and Grandma who both had Alzheimers. To see it hanging with the other quilts was wonderful. When I've helped guide visitors to the exhibit, it's been good to see their growing awareness and desire to help eradicate the disease.

I've been involved with AAQI since its beginning in 2006. I make Priority Quilts in memory of my mother who developed Alzheimer's in her 80's and spent her last 8 years in a nursing home. We need to find a cure for this dreadful disease!

I support the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative for 3 very good reasons...my mother, my mother-in-law and my best friend's mother. All 3 of these wonderful women suffered from Alzheimer's. It robbed them of their memories, their dignity and finally their lives. Through the Art Quilt Initiative and Priority Quilts I can use my love of quilting to honor their memories. I can never thank Ami and her wonderful volunteer enough for all their hard work and effort in finding a cure for this awful disease.

It is wonderful to be a small part of the AAQI! We "little people" all over the country, and overseas too, can help fund research one quiltlet at a time, whether we make them, buy them, or both. Thank you, Ami, for giving us this opportunity!

Give Ami Simms even more energy - she is awesome, and has dedicated her life to raising research funds to help find a cure for one of the worst diseases we face.
