Programs:

Afj's bolder advocacy program strengthens the capacity of the public interest community to influence public policy. Bolder advocacy promotes the active engagement in democratic processes and institutions by giving nonprofits and foundations the confidence to advocate effectively and by protecting their right to do so. Our goal is to demystify and decode advocacy by equipping organizations with knowledge and tools. We help organizations fully understand the rules and become assertive in their right to pursue their policy goals. Bolder advocacy amplifies the voice of nonprofits and foundations. We equip nonprofits and foundations through training, assistance, plain language publications and public education to engage effectively in advocacy. Our bolder advocacy programs develop new tools and resources for nonprofits and foundations to enhance their effectiveness and more fully realize their potential as agents of change.

Alliance for Justice is an indispensable resource for social justice nonprofits. The staff training they did for my organization was engaging and highly informative, and is going to enable us to understand, move forward and accurately track our lobbying efforts. We love AFJ!

We are now clearer on how to track and plan our lobbying efforts.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The Alliance for Justice is an unparalleled resource for the non-profit community. For example, being able to lobby policymakers is often important for groups such as ours that advocate for low-income communities. However, the rules governing lobbying are complex. AfJ provides the expert assistance and advice that enables non-profits to provide a voice for their clients in government circles, while scrupulously complying with all legal requirements.

AfJ's staff have provided my organization guidance around lobbying rules and standards on countless occasions. We've always found them accessible, ready to help, and utterly reliable in the assistance they provide. I highly recommend AFJ -- both as a source of assistance for non-profits, and as a worthy recipient of philanthropic support.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

None come immediately to mind.

As an advocate for people with disabilities, Alliance for Justice is my go-to source for information about what we can do as a nonprofit. I also routinely refer colleagues to the site. Alliance for Justice has come to Cincinnati and done presentations. I regard Alliance for Justice as an ally!

We are a very young organization without funding to have legal staff or the ability to develop expertise in certain areas of the law, including legal issues related to lobbying, grassroots organizing, nonprofit legal status, etc. Time and time again, the Alliance for Justice was there was rapid, timely, and enormously helpful advice and counsel to make sure that our 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) were in compliance with various aspects of the law. Many thanks to AFC for all of its terrific work!

See above.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Provide them more resources to help even more non-profit organizations with missions of importance to low-income and vulnerable populations.

I am the Director of Affiliate Support for the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, a network of more than 100 Affiliated organizations working to achieve our mission. Many of our Affiliates are run by volunteers or young staff who are new to the complexities of issue advocacy by non-profit organizations. Just in the last few weeks, Alliance for Justice provided a webinar training for our Affiliates with very short notice when we realized that new grant money was available for lobbying work in our movement. Also in the last few weeks, I was able to connect AFJ staff with the directors of three of our Affiliates who had specific questions - all of whom received a nearly immediate and personal response that was specific, concise and on point. AFJ sets the standard for how client services should be handled.

The people I serve by connecting them with AFJ have all come back to me having had their needs satisfied.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them something they need - whatever I can do to keep them happy and doing the great job that they do.
