I have worked with Al-Bustan in several capacities. I am an educator and have never experienced such an incredible community of caring, helpful and passionate group of people committed to youth education as I have at Al-Bustan. The staff, teachers, teaching-artists and counselors at Al-Bustan camp make it the unique, incredibly rich experience that it is. Families, children and communities pitch in to make the camp rich, educational and exciting. The organization's many involvements in the Philadelphia communities and schools throughout the year via art exhibits and workshop series are impressive. The caliber and quality of the teaching-artists is unmatched in my opinion. I can not imagine a more effective way to teach culture through the arts.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing how students knowledge and appreciation of Arabic language and culture comes alive through their work with the teaching-artists.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
ensure that it had all the resources and funding it needed to work on a larger scale and work reach more communities and families.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
seeing children from diverse racial/ethnic/socio-economic backgrounds come together and create art as they learn about the Arabic language and culture.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
caring, warm, experienced and passionate about their work.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Afford to bring in Arab artists and teachers from around the globe; create programs like this & replicate them in cities all over the world, where a deeper understanding of Arab culture is immensely needed; be able to work in more underpriveleged schools.
Ways to make it better...
I can not imagine it being any better than it was.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
One thing I'd also say is that...
