I went through three years of Aim High as a student. When I graduated from the program, I returned as a volunteer for one summer. After one summer of volunteering, I applied and was hired at the same campus that I graduated from. This summer was my second year as a Teacher's Assistant. After working for Aim High, I have come to realize how much work is put into teaching the students and making sure the program runs. I think Aim High is a wonderful program that has helped me and many other students excel in school. When I was a Aim High student, not only did the program operate during the summer, but it had events throughout the school year. Through those events, I was able to interact with my teachers and classmates that I normally didn't get to see because they went to other middle schools. Aim High is such an extraordinary program that all my fellow classmates and I had wished it offered a high school segment when we graduated.

Coming to Aim High in the 6th grade, I was a lackluster student who knew his material but lacked motivation and faith in the educational system. I held a biased notion that school was boring and made my way through school with minimal effort. However, after spending my summer at Aim High, I gave my teachers a chance and realized that learning can be fun. The experience and opportunity to connect with my various Aim High teachers inspired respect for teachers and made me appreciate the work that they put into the class. Even though many of my peers would complain of the teaching style or "fairness" of a teacher during regular school, I learned to look past it and analyze their class for what really mattered: was I learning and is it honestly trying to convey the material. I loved the program so much that I volunteered for it for a summer after I graduated and continue to contribute back to the community that I've grown to love by coming back as a Teacher's Assistant.

I had no idea that a 6 week experience could teach me more about teaching than I had learned in the past 10 years, but Aim High did that! I have never been more impressed with our leaders, my fellow teachers, or the students I was privileged to teach than I was in Aim High.

I have worked with Aim High for over 15 years. Each year I am amazed by the diversity of backgounds that are represented in the community. The mix of teachers and students is wonderfully diverse and adds a richness to the experience, no matter what it is. Each Friday of Aim High I am exhausted from the work but satisfied by the accomplishment. Working at Aim HIgh has been a very rewarding experience for me and has informed my teaching greatly.

I am an Aim High graduate from 1995. I sincerely love the program for all the support and guidance I have been blessed with. Aim High has provided me with a safe place for learning and reflection! It has been the best educational experience I´ve ever had, constantly flourishing me with limitless opportunities for growth. As the daughter of working-class immigrants, I am the first in my family to graduate from college. Aim High has instilled confidence in me to achieve my goals and dreams. Aim High has allowed me the space to "ask questions" and engage with others by finding a deep inspiration through cultural affirmation and community organizing movements. Aim High has empowered me to pursue my interests in holistic health practices that address public health issues through a critical lens of ethnic, gender, and class analysis. As well as, promoting a localize sustainable food system, as one demand towards food sovereignty. what more can i say? The students that I've worked with have brought tears of frustration and JOY to my eyes... the reality is that, WE NEED AIM HIGH THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR! IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD, THROUGHOUT THE NATION! Aim High strives to bring EMPOWERMENT into the lives of our youth, whom are dealing with violence, drugs, educational inequalities....

This program provides everyone with a chance to learn and have fun at the same time! For those who don't like to work out of a book or worksheets, it perfect. We mostly learn from activities. Also every Friday, we explore our neighborhood and learn our cultures. Plus we get ready for our futures and we learn to take the right path. Aim High gave me the best summer ever and I could never forget it even if i wanted to. The trips to the exploratorium was unforgettable. I smile just thinking about it!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that all the teachers are amazing, everyone is so nice, no violence, and I feel extremely safe there. Also the learning is so fun.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

like your best friends. Even your best friends at school couldn't get compared to them. The make you laugh, help you, and they just cheer your day up in a instant.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

extend the length of the program. When Aim High ended I was torn apart. I was sad it's ending. I wanted it to be my regular school.

This summer at Aim High was amazing. It was my first time teaching inside the classroom but the staff at my site made it so I knew that I was never alone. The students at the site were all having fun and it was great meeting parents during Back-To-School Night! Celebration Night was sad because it signal that the summer was over but it made me look forward to the next summer. This program is awesome!!!

I had a great time at AIM High. It was fun when we went to the Botanical Gardens, and got to observe different plants/trees, afterwards we got Jamba Juice. In Science we learned "The Bone Song", which we had to say the names of the bones in our body and do a specific dance move along with saying the name. In Humanities we did a collaborative poster about modified versions of Greek Mythology. I also liked Jeopardy which takes place every Friday. Everyone got a little too competitive but we all had a great time trying to earn points. AIM HIGH IS AWESOME!!

Absolutely fantastic. As a teacher, there's nothing I look forward to so much as summer with AimHigh. Teaching academics in the morning and leading activities in the afternoon gives me a chance to understand my students on a much more profound level and, consequently, to make so much more of a difference in their lives. Administrators, staff, students, and parents all understand what a special culture AimHigh has and they all work together to make it happen. Superb.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

keeping the program culture intact as it expands.

One thing I'd also say is that...

it broke my heart when they had to colse their campus at San Francisco State because of budgetry issues. It was such a special campus.
