I'm currently a senior in college, but I chose to take a semester off in order to gain more insight into the inner-workings of nonprofit before committing my job hunt to the sector. I am so glad I found AMREF! I interned there for a few months and it helped me to really understand the healthcare-related issues facing many nations in Africa. What was even more important to me was that you really got a feel from the office and the people who worked there of the strong connection between what they were doing in an office in New York and how it affected people thousands of miles away.

After interning with AMREF, I have confirmed 100% that I want to work with a nonprofit organization that works to increase access to effective and efficient healthcare. Who knows, maybe I'll even work for AMREF one day! :-)

AMREF USA is dedicated to helping African communities help themselves through health initiatives and training on the ground level. Most of the staff has been to East Africa and personal photos with AMREF workers and beneficiaries speckle each cubicle. From the beginning, the staff was friendly and helpful and encouraged me to ask questions. The staff is knowledgeable about AMREF's projects, and truely believe in fundraising for those in need.

I visited the AMREF headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya before I came to AMREF USA and was able to see the amazing facilities and programs that AMREF runs. For me, AMREF USA stands for the realistic recognition that fundraising and donations are necessary to continue serving the East African community.

A renewed appreciation for the fundraising side of non-profit international health organizations. I am usually an "on-the-ground person", and I learned a lot from seeing the other side and remembering how necessary and hard it is.
