I volunteer at the site far less than I would like to. However, when I do get to see the children, the development that transpired has been tremendous. This program will place the children far above their peers in the classroom. In a time when school budgets continue to shrink and teachers will be faced with growing class sizes, this sort of advantage will be invaluable. Let's face it; there will probably never be a time again when a child will be able to receive the student to teacher ratio that is provided through the Clara Fields Multicultural Literacy Program.

I have been there to see the children grow in their reading and writing abilities. Each child is at a different place. Some of the advanced children are reading books on their own. Some of our younger students are able to recognize and name letters and are at the stage where they will start writing the letters.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would like to see the word spread about this progam, and attendance grow. Reading and writing is such a vital skill in the world today, and I know there are more children here in La Crosse who would benefit from program.

Thank you, Mrs. Adams, for your gift of time and skill to our community. I admire your knowledge of reading and education and your passion for helping young children get a sound foundation in preparation for their school years and beyond. As I watch you work with each child I can see your commitment to and love for each one. I am sure you and the Clara Fields Literacy program will make a difference in many of their lives.
