Administer Justice is helping the most vulnerable in our communities who truly have no where else to turn. There are so many people facing civil legal issues that need help and simplty cannot afford an attorney. The elderly are victims of consumer fraud, identity theft is happening everywhere, and single parents are struggling to make ends meet when their child support doesn't arrive. Administer Justice is there to give hope to these individuals and help them navigate our complex legal and government programs. I have never known such a group of dedicated people with big hearts for those in need.

I was nearly without hope when I came to Administer Justice. Burdened down with the news my husband of 10 years wanted a divorce. I was a stay-at-home Mom with no where to turn. Not only did I leave each appointment feeling more hopeful and cared for, the legal advice and actions proved successful. They ministered to my family at one of the worst times in my life. Every person I came in contact with made us feel as though we were the most important appointment of the day. They were truly a blessing. Having Administer Justice involved truly allowed me to better heal and move on when the divorce was final. They administered much more than justice to my family. They administered hope, healing, and a sense of peace.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would love to see this organization receive the funds it needs to own a large building filled with full-time paid staff that can minster to the hurting people in our state. Multiple locations would be nice, too.

Overall, I had an outstanding experience interning with Administer Justice. The attorneys are genuinely devoted to using their expertise and experience in such legal fields as family law, tax controversy, landlord-tenant law, consumer rights law, foreclosures, and expungements/clemencies (to name only a few!) in order to serve the communities around Elgin, Illinois. The organization maintains a compressive panel of hundreds of attorneys that are able to work with clients on a pro bono or low bono basis as well. As a law student intern, I was exposed to all of the areas of law practiced by Administer Justice and able to see how different attorneys manage clients and deal with complex legal issues from differing points of view. My responsibilities included assisting with client intakes (starting on day 1), researching and drafting legal memoranda as questions arose, writing engagement letters to clients, communicating with the IRS and Taxpayer Advocate Service, assisting with motions and other court documents for self-representing clients, and preparing legal and informational brochures for clients. All of my work was completed under direct attorney supervision, and all of the attorneys were able to evaluate and provide honest feedback of my work. Feedback is freely provided! Administer Justice attorneys are natural mentors. They would often re-cap the day's legal issues and ask me for my reaction to a client's legal concerns. I truly felt a part of the Administer Justice team rather than just a short-term summer intern. I believe that I am returning to law school having had a significantly better internship than my law school peers. I would strongly recommend Administer Justice as an excellent organization to volunteer and develop your skills and gifts.

As an intake specialist, I take phone calls and meet clients in person in the office. I have been pleasantly surprised at the satisfaction of the clients. One client, Theresa, initially came in the office frustrated and frazzled, but after meeting with the attorney she expressed to me how pleased she was that the attorney really listened to her and understood her situation. She was impressed with the creative ideas the attorney had and planned to complete, as quickly as possible, the things the attorney instructed her to do for her case. I see clients every day who come in to the office for their first appointment, afraid, frustrated and exasperated, but when they leave, they are smiling and thanking me for the great job Administer Justice has just done for them.

Administer Justice is a wonderful non-profit providing comprehensive legal, financial and conflict resolution services to low income individuals. They seek to empower the powerless, give hope to the hopeless and show mercy and compassion to individuals who are often marginalized in Kane and McHenry counties of Illinois. Administer Justice offers free educational seminars, financial and dispute resolution counseling and legal representation when appropriate. Clients meet with real attorneys who are carefully matched to best address the client's situation. Administer Justice is supported by donations and by the work of many volunteers, like me, who want to make a difference using the skills I already have. Incredibly, a recent audit showed that .99 of every dollar donated to Administer Justice goes directly to meeting client needs. You can be sure your support is very much appreciated. Clients can expect to meet with ethical, highly skilled and compassionate people who want to help you find a solution to the problems you face.
