76 Ninth Avenue Suite 315 New York NY 10011 USA

Acumen Fund exists to help end poverty by changing how the world addresses it. We invest patient capital to strengthen and scale business models that effectively serve the poor and we champion this approach as a complement to both charity and pure market approaches. Our Vision is that one day every human being will have access to the critical goods and services they need – including affordable health, water, housing, energy, agricultural inputs and services – so that they can make decisions and choices for themselves and unleash their full human potential. This is where dignity starts – not just for the poor but for everyone on earth.

Acumen is about helping people into the business world where they can help themselves and others and get the job done. It's for real a "rising tide lifts all boats" thing, and have been very effective.

Half way into the book the Blue Sweater I sent an email to The Acumen fund. The person in NY put me in touch with London who were organising their first event, the timing was great. Acumen aligns with my insides in a way Im still trying to find words for. I am an African that beleives in teaching people to fish not giving them fish. The investments Acumen make in entrepreneurs in developing countries encourages both a return on investment in cash terms and a huge return on investment in human terms, without which there would be no monetary gain.

The guidance and clear vision the NY team has is inspiring to me. They continue to develop in unconventioanal and inovitive ways. As a volunteer it's been important for me to know they are there supporting, guiding and encouraging.

I have no changes to make right now only encouragement to keep changing the way philanthroy operates and keep inspiring others to learn to fish vs be given fish.
