ACTORS SHAKESPEARE COMPANY AT NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY

What is most impressive about the Actors Shakespeare Company's productions (aside from the fine ensemble work, skillful staging, and adept direction)is their courage to eschew trendy and superficial interpretive overlays and explore Sheakespeare's masterpieces with a sincere ambition to present their essence and let their genius shine in an honest and unpretentious way. In a theatrical age of hip-hop productions of Hamlet (as if that play's depth can be illuminated by flash, glitter, and bling) ASC avoids such creative exhaustion by returning to the source of the author's ability to present life in all its moving and vivid complexity. I always feel more alive after experiencing ASC's productions, and that's what great theater is all about.

ASC provides a truly unique theater experience. The commitment of all involved is evident in the quality and energy of performances. As a longtime fan and supporter, I am constantly impressed - the current production of Midsummer is no exception, and was one of their most joyful presentations - funny, engaging, and just so much fun! They are truly a treasure

I love ASC and what they are about: a group of talented artists on stage and off stage endeavoring to keep Shakespeare, the classics and theater at large alive. What I love most about them is their long-term commitment to each other, the company and their audience. Not easily found these days.
The Great!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The quality of their work and of the people's heart and devotion to something they truly believe in.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Gracious, friendly, informative.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
do more outreach, pay their staff properly and expand the company's goals.
Ways to make it better...
the company was more subsidized and they were in a position to pay all the people who work so hard for them, including their permanent staff.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Financing their projects as they keep promoting the arts and outreaching towards a number of ethnic communities in an area where very few people are doing so.

Expand its program and advertising, and make itself more well known. A lot of people in Jersey City don't even know it's there
Ways to make it better...
More people knew about this Company, and the play so there would have been more people in the audience

This is the best Shakespeare done in the Tristate area. They have a handle on the canon like few companies do. If you want an entertaining evening, with excellent Shakespearean acting, this is the place to go.
