My experience with Activated Ministries has been very positive. For over ten years our volunteers have been active in Warn Torn countries in Africa. Our hope has been to support children in crisis with character building products and motivational teaching aids. Activated played a big role in sponsoring a large amount of books/teaching aids with value that have been viewed by thousands of children. Most of these kids never had a book of their own---now they do. We hope that Activated Ministries will continue to receive in abundance and thus continue to support us in our mission. Once again, a heartfelt thank you!

I have been a missionary for years and now that I am studying to become a teacher IROS Scholarship program has made a big difference in financing my studies. I was able to get a loan for the first courses, then IROS Scholarship helped me cover the costs for the next course and I am able to continue my studies . My goal is to graduate as a teacher so I can help underprivileged children in their studies and thus have a better future. I want to give children at risk the chance to overcome the obstacles they face for a better life

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Financing was limited and in spite of that we accomplished a lot. If there was more financing the work will be even more effective

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I learned compassion, patience, and also that doing things in love is the most important because those we help know the difference between someone that really cares and the ones that not

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

It made me feel realized

Having worked as an educator and special humanitarian project supervisor overseas, in Africa and Europe, I was looking for a scholarship to help my son be able to continue his College education and obtain his degree in writing and filmmaking. We applied for the Activated Ministries scholarship last semester, during a particularly difficult time and IROS came through, meeting even above our expectations. We are impressed with their friendly and professional manner, organization and courtesy. We can't say enough good about AM.

I heard about Activated Ministries about 3 years ago, when I was looking for a sponsor for a project that I've been involved with in Mexico. Every year for Children's Day, I like to travel to Mexico (from my home in Texas), and make Children's Day special for children who live in poverty. Kids are my passion - and I always think that you never know how far an investment in a child will go! Activated Ministries sponsored some really great children's books that we were able to donate to children in 3 public schools in very poor neighborhoods. For many, it was the first time they had a book of their own that they could take home with them! It was very rewarding to see their eyes light up and know how special this moment was for each one.

My name is Susan Tidewell, and I have donated to Activated Ministries regularly over the years. I receive their monthly Newsletter, and I'm always amazed with the tremendous work that Activated Ministries is accomplishing around the world. I am specifically interested in helping missions in Africa - and this charity is doing accomplishing so much in helping orphans, AIDS victims, former child soldiers, children in need of school books and uniforms. Plus they are very active in preaching the gospel - God's Word that truly changes lives!

Thanks to Activated Ministries, I was able to receive my first IROS scholarship towards my nursing degree. With their help, I am now enrolled in my 3rd semester at Orange County Community college (I was also placed on their Spring 2012 Dean's List) and will be entering the nursing program this coming year. I am very grateful for the help and support they have given towards my life's career that will help support my family and many others in the years to come. I highly recommend their non-profit organization to anyone interested in supporting a great work! --Promesa Primus

Review from CharityNavigator

The infamous sect of ‘The Children of God’ –aka ‘The Family International’, - needed a front, in fact many fronts. Activated Ministries is just one of them, and although uses the excuse of being a book and DVDs wholesale, they barely assist only their own members in other parts of the world, while maintaining a deceitful cover-up. A clear infringement of charitable ethics. In regards of book donations, compare ‘Activated Ministries’ with institutions fully dedicated to eradicate illiteracy and to help poor children to fashion love for books like ‘Books for Africa’ or ‘Room to Read’. While the last ones uphold four stars here at the Charity Navigator, ‘Activated Ministries’ artificially ‘produces’ just one star.
Mentioning books, someone came to the rescue of AM, introducing herself as director of ‘Sponsor a Book’. Again, The Children of God’s tactic, where the front is used to simply ‘provide’ a good face, while no much gets done. If someone wishes to support a truly charitable institution to enhance education in Mexico, they can turn for ‘Worldfund’, for example, which uses education to fight poverty in Latin America and cooperates with ‘Becalos’ and other local foundations. So again, whereas ‘Activated Ministries’ –‘Sponsor a Book’ and their other different branches- hold a charitable certificate, they request help for their own, thus trying to preserve a life style that at the end contributes poorly to the charitable community.

Hi my name is Daniella Bergner and I was born in Hungary. We have been doing volunteer work my whole life and I have travelled and helped in different countries alongside my parents as I was growing up. I am very, very thankful to Activated Ministries for helping me with my university tuition. Thank you so much for paying the first semester! You make it all possible for me to keep studying languages on a higher level and I know it will be a help to others as well in the long run! Thank You!

I am the founder and general director of a non-profit in Mexico, called "Sponsor a Book". One of our mission goals is the fostering of values through the promotion of reading and the free distribution of educational material in marginalized neighborhoods in Mexico and Central America. A friend who had benefited from Activated Ministries's support suggested that I contact them. The result: over the past 5 years, Activated Ministries has actively supported our work through donating literally tens of thousands of beautiful children's literature and children's activities books. To date, we have distributed, free of charge, to tens of thousands of poor children who, for the most part, had never owned a book, over 130,000 books fostering values. Many of these were sponsored by Activated Ministries. We wouldn't have been able to impact so many needy communities without their help, and are extremely thankful for their support!!! They are a charity well-worth endorsing!

I applied for a scholarship towards my degree in International Development with Activated Ministries in March 2012. I found their website extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate. In my interactions with them as they guided me through the application process and subsequent approval of my scholarship, their staff were always extremely professional, courteous and prompt in answering emails. I really appreciated the help towards my tuition fees through the scholarship, and I have since recommended them to several of my friends.
