First of all, I was impressed with the outside of the building as it looked so cheerful and colorful, also saw the annex across the street and the APCH van heading out. Upon entering, we saw the huge list of classes available (impressive) and was equally impressed with the amount of great equipment supporting each class. We saw the new kitchen for nourishing bodies as well as minds and souls. We saw groups of children talking, playing, exploring and most of all – we saw real Hope and true Progress. All of this – free of charge – and started in the basement of a church, now being offered to so many children and young adults is indicative of what human hearts are capable of. The entire experience was so upbeat and happy…Ana Maria is a shinning star of infectious positivity! APCH is so clearly making a huge difference to many, many families and it makes me happy to be associated with them– it was a wonderful experience!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it available to even more children and families!

A Place Called Home has offered me an opportunity to go to the college of my dreams without the burden of financial cost. I have obtained helped and resources from A Place Called Home to keep me motivated to stay in college. Coming from South Central Los Angeles, Maine was a complete culture shock and Bowdoin itself pushed my limits. A Place Called Home is one of the resources that has made my transition from South Central to Bowdoin College a successful one. When I was giving up last Thanksgiving, I received a call from the college staff that helped me to keep being strong. I believe that A Place Called Home is a resource that equalizes the inequity of wealth between socioeconomic classes for low income community members. What I see in A Place Called Home is light through the turmoils in South Central to a brighter future.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand the organization to serve more students.

I'm the mother of one of the children who attends A place called home. My son attended for the first time during the Summer of 2012 and ever since he has a positive experience especially from Teacher Bernice. I can't express with words my gratitude to this organization that has helped my 8 year old express his artistic side. Even though I grew up and live near the area I never thought that there's an enviorment that help children and youth strive to their full potential. As my child's world is art, this Fall he has express himself that when he grows up his foundest desire is to be A comic book artist! And all thanks to Teacher Bernice!
