A place called home is a fun and entertaining place to spend the summer. As a volunteer working with the kids, it was exciting and it makes you feel very responsible to help and being asked for help when someone needs it. I also learned a lot in the department I was in and some of those things I had never learned at school.

A great non-profit is not just an organization based on good intentions and new ideas that are aimed to help its demographic. It's more than that; a great non-profit such as A Place Called Home is much more than just a foundation built from one persons dream to help the community. It stems from something much more than that; a passion deep down within, a passion that is driven by first-hand experience and a vision to WANT to see a change in the community APCH stands for.
When a non-profit is founded on a genuine interest to develop a path to success and long-lasting change, all of its staff, volunteers and members are able to get a taste of this love and care which allows for more forward-moving, positive growth. The core of this foundation -- built upon everlasting generosity, care and support -- is like a foundation to any well-structured home. With a solid foundation that APCH sits on, everything that APCH stands for will continue to maintain a sturdy and focused game plan -- that is to give the community hope, guidance and opportunities that all of its people deserve.
I have been volunteering at APCH for more than a year now and have spent hours and hours working with staff, members and other volunteers. From the moment I read about APCH online, I knew I had to check it out as I also had a passion to want to see change and to give those that are less fortunate an opportunity to strive and succeed. I wanted to see change and as soon as I started volunteering at APCH, I got my first-hand experience at seeing what combing great people with higher hope looks like inside the walls of APCH, the experience was overwhelming in a good sense because I was seeing change; positive change. Whether it was seeing members get served nutritious meals, members being taught general education or seeing the kids open up to staff and volunteers simply because they are there to support and listen.
After years of living near areas that I see are lacking proper resources for youth and seeing people living on the streets, it is comforting to know there are individuals out there with brilliant efforts and compassion to develop something that caters to those that are seemingly controlled by their surroundings. APCH is not just a non-profit, it's a team of people that share the same compassion to help and as a volunteer with the same compassion and eagerness to see positive change, I am lucky enough to be able to see it everyday while working with the members of APCH.
Thank you APCH for doing your part!
I didn't know what to expect when I started volunteering, but APCH is a great community program. The children have fun, the location is clean and safe, and the staff is helpful. This only my first year with them, but I can see that the staff does everything they can to support the children of the area.
I really enjoy playing with the kids here. Everyone is so nice and I feel so comfortable. The kids are so cute and I love to listen to their stories and even their complaints. I feel like I learn a lesson every time I am here. I learn to be patient, to deal with kids, to be observant, etc. Volunteering here has made me a more mature person and I think that is really important in my life.
I come to a Place Called Home to volunteer in the Art Department. The program is positive because of the variety of art projects that are completed. The kids take pride in completing personal work that gives them a sense of accomplishment. Some of the kids say they are not interested in doing some of the art projects, but staff still expects them to be attentive. Because of this dynamic, some of the kids lose focus and become disinterested. It would be nice to see other options to match each individual's passion.

I am a volunteer here and honestly it is an amazing place that they have created for the kids. They have many different classes for the kids where they get to do really fun stuff that is not only engaging but, educational. The staff are also very kind and always treat the kids with respect and show that they genuinely do care. The title of this non-profit really speaks the truth because it is like another home for the kids.

A Place Called Home is a wonderful organization that helps foster the youth in the community. Without this organization, many of the youth would not have a place to call their second home. The members that I have come into contact with truly love this place. APCH does so much for the community as well. They open their doors every Fall for Back to School Giveaways, for Thanksgiving Day dinner, for the yearly Christmas Adopt a Family Program and for many more events. This year long nonprofit organization is an example to lead by.
As a volunteer A Place Called Home has different programs that helps the kids and a place that they can come to and feel safe.
So many opportunities! The classes were on fun topics while still being educational, and the kids loved the games that were made up about biodiversity, also the many trivia games. The history of animation was also a very liked class where all the students were able to do fun activities while exploring animation and seeing if they had any interest in it. This is a great place! If I could have come here when I was younger I would have!
APCH is amazing! The kids seem to love this face very much and its also very fun for the staff and volunteers. I was only suppose to volunteer for a few weeks but I ended up staying and will most likely stay my whole summer and maybe return next year that's how fun it is. As a volunteer I've seen all the activities the kids get to be a part of and personally when I was a kid I never got to do any of them so it's super cool that they get the opportunity to take part in those activities. Basically A Place Called Home is an awesome place.
