89 Organizations Promoting the Arts Recognized on 2011 Top-Rated Arts Nonprofits List
February 2, 2011 Menlo Park, CA.
GreatNonprofits today announced that 89 organizations promoting service and the arts across the country have qualified for the 2011 Top-Rated Arts Nonprofits List based on user reviews submitted during a national campaign in January.
The reviews were posted as part of the 2011 GreatNonprofits Arts Appreciation Campaign, conducted in partnership with GuideStar and a broad coalition of leaders in the field including, Theatre Communications Group, Intersection for the Arts, The New 42nd St. Inc., and Art & Creativity for Healing.
Over the course of the campaign, more than 60,000 people visited the GreatNonprofits site to read and write reviews. A total of 288 nonprofit organizations working to promote the arts were rated and reviewed by stakeholders. In the process, a total of 2,110 new user reviews were gathered. All the organizations on the top-rated list received ten or more positive reviews.
"For all of the people who think that the arts is something that doesn't touch their lives, they can think again after looking at this remarkable and diverse range of arts nonprofits," said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. "These groups play music for kids confined to hospital beds, take students to see and participate in Shakespeare plays, run galleries that nurture women's art, pay rent for singers who are between gigs, and I could go on. These organizations make a remarkable contribution to all of our lives!"
Among the nonprofits making the top-rated list is the American Place Theater, an organization committed to nurturing the talents of American authors, playwrights and authors.
"The chance for friends to show public support for The American Place Theater in such an easy, visible, and engaging way as GreatNonprofits makes all of us recognize the importance of talking about what you believe in," said Jeniffer J. Barnette, the managing director.
Rourke O'Brien, Founder of the Top-Rated Arts Nonprofit Children's Music Foundation agrees. "People want to know what other people have said about an organization. Companies like Amazon and Ebay have used this kind of rating system, and it's become familiar to people. Rather than trust a claim that the organization itself is making, people have the opportunity to read the reviews written by the children and parents we serve."
