Address:

358 7th Avenue, 3rd Floor New York NY 10001 USA

Mission:

3 Generations is a non-profit organization that documents stories of human rights abuses through film. We enable survivors of crimes against humanity to record their experiences as an act of healing, a call to action and to create historical evidence. We amplify and honor each witness’s voice by creating broad audiences: film festivals, educational outreach, theatrical and community screenings, social media, partnerships, web-channels and more. Our goal is to influence the national dialogue and build momentum for social change.

Target demographics:

survivors of atrocities share their stories

Geographic areas served:

the United States and around the world

Programs:

In October 2010, 3 Generations announced the launch of a campaign to end child sex slavery in the United States. Every year approximately 100,000 children in the United States, many of them very young girls, are enslaved in the commercial sex trade industry. We have filmed and shared stories of survivors, parents, law enforcement professionals, and individuals who lead advocacy efforts to address this crisis. We have shared our stories with thousands of viewers and have amassed an active and growing following of advocates, activists, and donors through our website (www.3generations.org) and through our social media networks (@3Generations on Twitter and www.facebook.com/3Generations). The campaign has secured the support of noted celebrities, lawmakers, nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, and dozens of organizations that are doing incredible work on the ground to end child sex slavery. To date we have partnered with organizations such as the Polaris Project, the Demi and Ashton Foundation (DNA Foundation), Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS), the Denver Police, Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center, The National Crittenton Foundation, and Witness. On December 13th, 2013 3 Generations released its first feature film entitled Tricked. The film explores the issue of sex trafficking in America and has since been shown in cities across the United States and around the world. Through our engagement campaign for the film, 3 Generations has spread awareness to thousands, promoted legislative improvements to counteract the criminalization victims and has encouraged better police practices through the creation of the Malone Prize which awards law enforcement officials who lead the way in combating sex trafficking on the front-lines.

Reviews for Three Generations Inc

Rating: 5 stars

Three Generations is a unique entity--their dedication to improving awareness for so many social injustices is unwavering and so badly needed in the world today. I am inspired by their creative projects and the commitment they have to social justice. I am eager to see what films they release next and will continue to support them however I can.

I first learned about 3 Generations at the screening of German Concentration Camps Factual Survey at the Museum of Jewish Heritage this past spring. The story behind German Concentration Camps Factual Survey was fascinating but more interesting to me, was the work Ms. Wells is doing with 3 Generations in continuing her father's legacy of documenting the stories of survivors. From what I've seen, 3 Generations preserves the stories and honors the voices of survivors in a way that to me, seems rare these days. I look forward to seeing more from Ms. Wells and 3 Generations in the future.

The incredible thing about 3 Generations is their unique ability to raise awareness of human rights abuse and remind us that we are all a part of the human race. The stories are captured and shared in such a way that each survivor personally affects each viewer. Their stories are no longer past memories watched on a screen, but rather a relevant part of our everyday lives. We are unable to continue living in blissful ignorance. Instead we are compelled to watch more stories, share them with our friends, and do something to become part of the solution.

I used to ignore all of the bad things going on in the world because I thought they did not pertain to my life. After seeing just one video on the 3 Generations’ website, I was changed forever. I now watch survivor stories regularly and help raise awareness of human rights abuse.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase their resources so they could share more stories.

Jane Wells, the founder of 3 Generations, is a woman of compassion, conscience, insight and integrity who is deeply committed to making this a more just and humane world. In 2005 we went together to Darfuri refugee camps in Eastern Chad. She was deeply moved to tell the personal story of the Dafruri refugee which led to her producing the powerful film, The Devil Came on Horseback. 3 Generations brings the compelling stories of the victims of genocide, war and sex-slavery as well other major atrocities to life in creative and inspiring videos. I am proud to serve on the Board of an organization that is doing effective, strategic work in promoting human dignity and rights.

Seeing the influence 3G has had on raising awareness about sex-slaves here in the US as well as sharing the personal narratives of the people around the world who have been hurt by our inhumanity to each other.

This organization has great potential and is need of much more support. The work of 3G is desperately needed.

Seeing the videos and reading the stories of individuals brings to life the reality and brutality of war for a vast number of people. Individuals can survive, with incredible hope, however they carry untold scars. The powerful message of the work of 3Generations is that If we don't speak out, we can't challenge these atrocities, and suffering continues through generations. What a waste.

From revealing the atrocities of the genocide in Darfur to spreading the truth about Chinese oppression in Tibet, 3Generations shares with the public the stories of those who survive the world's worst crimes against humanity. Using survivors' own testimony to explain abuses, 3Generations is able to both spread their story, and to help victims heal through sharing. By spreading awareness using real stories of human rights abuses, 3Generations is able to connect with the public on a more visceral level. In doing so, 3Generations seeks to raise awareness, and call to action those who become moved by the stories of survivors.

my travels to Rwanda where I spoke with President Kagame and his cabinet about genocide and its after effects. I also interviewed survivors of genocide and recognized the importance of sharing not just second-hand information about their experiences, but their stories in their own words.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make it bigger, expand its reach.

What links a survivor of the Armenian Genocide that took place a century ago with a barely teenage victim of sex abuse being pimped on the streets of the US?

The answer is 3Generations.org.

A deeply committed and innovative not-for-profit that is using the internet and digital video to record the personal stories of victims in their own words. Bearing witness to the suffering and exploitation of others is an act of deep respect and humanity through which we can all share and grow. If we are also motivated to act and try and achieve change in our troubled world, so much the better.

the first thing you can do is support this organisation and spread the word.

I have met survivors of the Darfur genocide who have shared their stories through 3Gen, and seen how the simple experience of being heard can become part of their recovery.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase its size!

I was lucky to have the opportunity to work with the 3generations crew regarding my experience under pimp control for two years! I was impressed by their knowledge and understanding of human trafficking and their treatment of me as an everyday person, not just a survivor! They made me feel at home so I could relay my story in a candid and personal way. The final outcome from my interview is exceptional and completely retains my message. The 3G team supports me in many aspects, following the interview and it isrefreshing to see that they were not just interested in my story, they were interested in me! I really appreciate having them behind me and they are a great organization doing some great work for a huge issue! Keep it up 3G!

Telling people's stories is the most powerful way to connect us all.
Stories make the unimaginable real. They remind us of our common humanity. 3 Generations was founded to do this and to do this in a respectful and non-manipulative manner. All survivors of crimes against humanity deserve to tell their stories and be heard. That is what 3 Generations does: thus helping heal the teller and informing the listener.

By listening to survivors of crimes against humanity and helping sharing their stories I have been humbled and also seen that the process really helps the teller in ways they previously couldn't imagine.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would like to see more people listen to the stories on the 3 Generations site....

3 Generations has taken an original approach to the problem of child trafficking in two ways. One, it has focused on underage girls in the United States. Two, it makes concise documentary films of the girls describing their experiences; how they were captured, what their lives were like and how they escaped. The films are not fantasy or titillation. They are a frank look at a horrendous crime. No other medium could convey these girls' experience as well.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have watched the films and seen the effect they have on others.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would try and make sure these short documentary films were seen by as many people as possible. There should be links to them on every news site on the web.
