Reviews for The Humanitarian Service Project

Rating: 5 stars

I have been delivering gifts for an impoverished senior for over 7 years and have participated in delivering holiday meals to seniors in need as well. I've also volunteered my writing skills for a short newsletter for the seniors letting them know how much their "secret pals" (those who donate personal monthly gifts) care.

The impact this small organization has on so many needy seniors and families is astonishing!

The dedication of the founders, leadership, staff, and community of volunteers is remarkable. It's especially nice to see youngsters and school groups participating in volunteer activities.

I've been involved with Humanitarian for at least 4 years and have taken note of their community service. Some of the HSP projects include: Senior Gifts, Birthday Gifts for Children, School Supplies, Food Pantry, and much more.

I've been purchasing monthly gifts for several seniors and, in turn, I feel very rewarded. Many of the seniors have little leftover after paying for medical needs, so I purchase gift cards that can be used for RX or groceries. Sometimes, a senior will need stamps or extra-soft tissues...items that they can't always afford in their budget.

I've also participated in HSP's yearly Christmas Boxing Day at the center. We box up all the donations from area toy drives for needy children.

You can be assured that your donations will be put to good use in Dupage and Will counties.

As a two-year grantwriting intern with HSP, I can attest that although this small human services nonprofit has been led since its 1979 beginning by its founding husband and wife, she as Executive Director and he as Treasurer, and their small founders' board, it continues to fill a major gap in the lives of poor seniors, children and families in DuPage and Kane counties.
Its previous history of sequential 4 Star ratings from Charity Navigator prior to the initiation of its new evaluation system attests to its financial stability. No one could question the commitment of the Ketterings and their Board to HSP and its mission, to relieve the suffering inflicted by poverty.
HSP's services, including food packages emphasizing first-quality fresh fruits and vegetables along with household products (delivered to homebound seniors), school supplies, and birthday and holiday gifts, supply that extra beyond which the poor cannot only survive, but live with some dignity, with hope for the future. It has a unique vision
which deserves your recognition and support.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Getting feedback from the clients, on-site as they receive services and afterwards by phone and letter.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase the size of the Board (would improve grant options)

HSP is a wonderful charity made up of many kind and caring employees and volunteers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The seniors that receive the food and supply donations are so grateful for the help they receive. Many would be in trouble without the HSP.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

don't know of any
