Nonprofit Issues:

Animals

Address:

Mission:

Our Mission is centered on the belief that life has its own value. Throughout the millenia, horses have shared a special relationship with mankind; and it is this spirit that our organization attends to the needs of our equine friends. Our basic steps are the 4 r's rescue rehabilitation, revocation, retirement Our goal is to provide for the care and security of our horses in a natural lifestyle, to work with local humane orgs to care for any horse in need, to provide education to the community concerning the health and care of horses, and to provide support for the youth at risk and the community service requirements at the farm that often change a negative focus on life.

Results:

We have in the past had varous events to raise funds for medical demands and what ever the need may have been for equipment repair or loads of hay, medical demands.. We are having trail ride that is focused on rasing money for emergency equine eqp. that can contribute to saving lives 1. a glide(gurney) $2000.00 for moving a downed animal, various accesories to protect the animal(a horse). A Sling to help a downed animal be raised up and support life forces while it heals. A must in many cases as in fires for air lifting horses to safety. . We raised funds to surgically remove a large tumor on a 21 year old mare thought to be not worth the medical challenge by some and she has done well with gifted surgical hands at work and is back at play and a year has gone by and she has been a grand survivor! We fund raise using Global Giving as part of the focus for medicines and much needed money for Vets services , this is only part of the challenge, This year our fundraising focus has gone to feed and to needs that are a daily drive to provide for the many horses we care for our feed cost averages $900.00 (US) a week. Farrier needs for horses hooves is a regular focus as it is a health need as well and we must raise $500.00 a month to keep up, dental funding is raised as it is an Annual care routine at $5,000.00 total a year on the average and this service requires a Dental Expert so all emergency needs can be met . So many horses need dental work when they come into rescue we can't imagine the pain they feel in those lovely heads with loose , broken, sharp points on teeth, and yes infections, We also look to the future, as we will need a new location for the rescue and sanctuary our growth and potential community demands and needs direct this vision. Another need is a trailer outfitted for emergency work that can be used as an ambulance to serve whereever when a horse needs to get to a Veterinarian, hospital etc.., a need many horse owners face unsucessfully as it may take special handling and experience to accomplish this need. We are a TLAER certified rescue, which refers to our work and Techniques with Large Animal Emergency Rescue.

Target demographics:

any horse in need and youth at risk

Direct beneficiaries per year:

countless horses and some kids/youth at risk.

Geographic areas served:

Texas, Southwest and USA

Programs:

Reviews for Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue And Sanctuary

Rating: 5 stars

I met Kat in 2006 when I had to give up 2 of my horses. I started volunteering and helping out with the horses (and dogs and cats and pigs and anything that needed a home). Kat knows all their stories and she goes above and beyond to make sure they all know love. I have met many of the adopters, Kat finds wonderful forever homes for as many animals as possible. If you visit Spirit Acres you will instantly feel the loving and welcoming spirit there. Please do visit. Volunteer. Get to know Kat and the horses. The beautiful horses. While helping them you'll find you have helped yourself.

It was always a challenge to come up with a gift to give to my elderly mother at Christmas. She certainly did not need another blouse or something to dust. However my Mom always had a soft spot for the American Mustang. Searching in my county, I found that Spirit Acres did indeed have a rescue mustang, Sally, who had been abused. Since then, I have "adopted" Sally in my Mom's name. It was a pleasure to my Mom and myself, as well as a comfort, to see Sally getting the care she deserves. Sadly, both Sally and my mother have passed away (within 5 days of each other!) but I am certainly they are both enjoying themselves up in heaven.

Thank God for Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue & Sanctuary. The work that Kat does for horses in need of rescue and care is wonderful. We could certainly use more generous, hardworking people who care about animals the way that Kat at Spirit Acres does.

I started volunteering at Spirit Acres after going through a difficult divorce that left me broken and depressed. Horses have brought me comfort for many years so I did some research on the internet and found Spirit Acres. I talked with Kat over the phone and made arrangements to visit the farm.
I can tell you, upon meeting Kat and touring the farm I knew I had to be a part of this rescue!
I was happy to help with finances when I could. This farm runs on volunteers who provide whatever is needed, (Monetary donations, farrier and vet expenses, purchasing fed and hay and carpenters to keep barns and fences in good shape.)

I felt happiness and made friends not only with the horses, but with other volunteers. I adopted one of the mares and one of my best friends adopted her colt.
Before I knew it I had been volunteering right at 3 years! I cared for the horses and helped Kat in the office. I made life-long friends and i still try to help Kat when I can even though I live in Tennessee now. I am amazed by the devotion and love that Kat has for animals.

Spirit Acres was a healing place for me as well as the horses. Divorced after 25 years, my life was turned upside down, depressed, etc. The first day I walked through the gate, I knew this was where God had lead me. I arrived in 2004 and spent 3 years working hard every day. Feeding, grooming, bathing, cleaning stalls, cleaning hooves - whatever needed to be done. Kat knows each horse and can tell you each one's story. She has a heart as big as Dallas, but that doesn't feed and care for the horses. She needs donations and volunteers each and every day to make sure these horses get the best care and live out the rest of their lives never knowing pain or hurt again. Most volunteers will also donate either money or feed/hay which is urgently needed. I adopted a mare from the farm, she was an incredible companion for me. I had horses before I got married and this mare helped me find myself again. There are horses at Spirit Acres who were brought there to live their last days in peace and love, and there are good horses there that can be adopted. I still talk to Kat and hope to visit Spirit Acres real soon.

I have been a supporter of Spirit Acres for 8 years and just wish I could do more. Kat has done a wonderful job caring for abandoned and neglected horses. When volunteering there I saw first hand the incredible effort she put towards their care and the love and compassion she showed to all the horses at Spirit Acres.

The people I met while volunteering at Spirit Acres were wonderful as were all the new four-legged friends who I met there. Especially one little Appaloosa mare that I think of every day. She was so smart and sweet - a friend like no other.

Spirit Acres is one of the most caring and helpful organizations I have ever dealt with. I have volunteered and I have donated supplies and time to them many times. They care for the sick ,healthy ,hurt, abused and unwanted animals that most people would look over. Kat has always been there helping the animals. I have known her many years even before the rescue was formed. Its a great organization and we need many more like it.

I have know Kat Matrician for a very long time. She was one of the first people to help me with showing my horses when I was a child. I am now 43 years old. Since then we have became very good friends and I actually enjoy helping her with the rescue horses. I have gone with her to pick them up,doctor, haul and have even fostered a few for her. Spirit Acres is a wonderful haven for all animals whether big or small, sick or well. They are all loved and cared for with such love everyday. Kat is a very giving person and I try my very best to be there for her and the animals anytime she calls and needs some help. The rescue is a very needed place since there are so many unwanted and uncared for animals. Thanks, D'Anna Garza/G Force Ranch

We are past volunteers, adopted three horses and are thankful that Kat continues to provide homes to neglected, abused and abandoned horses. She has a great love for horses and not only provides a home for as many of our four legged friends at her place as possible, but also actively works with others who do the same. There are so few like her that provide this valuable service to the animals and community. The need is great and it's tremendous that there are people like Kat in this world to help.

We have many fond memories of the people we met and our volunteer times at Spirit Acres. We moved many years ago and stay in touch by email and phone as well as continue to support the rescue financially. Despite our distance from Spirit Acres we still feel we are part of the Spirit Acres "family" and share in Kat's efforts to help the many needy and deserving horses in her area. We love watching our adopted horses happily grazing out in the field and remember that they could only be with us now since Kat provided them with a opportunity at Spirit Acres. We have many friends here with a variety of adopted pets and it's great to know that people all over the country, like Kat at Spirit Acres, are helping out in the cause to take care of abandoned and neglected animals.

My wife and I were volunteers at Spirit Acres for two years. We learned about Kat and her efforts from a friend who invited us out to see the facility. Our "visit" turned into two years of learning, fun, challenges and a new adventure of living and caring for horses. In addition, I was recovering from an illness and found the association with the horses and friends we met at Spirit as very therapeutic. We have since moved with our adopted horses from Spirit Acres who became an integral part of our new home. We have found similar rescues in our new area and are thankful to Kat's efforts and others throughout the country who help out our abandoned and neglected four legged friends. We have also found that many of our friends also adopt abandoned horses, dogs, cats and a menagerie of critters who need new homes. We continue to support financially Kat and similar efforts locally as they count on not only our time, but dollars to keep their efforts going.

Spirit Acres continues to be the best place in this part of the world for abused or neglected horses to find a safe and loving sanctuary. My two aged mares are comfortable and well cared for there, and I love seeing how each of the horses there find their place in the herd. They deserve your support.

I started volunteering for Spirit Acres a few months ago and I am still astonished by the devotion and the personal sacrifice that Kat has endured for these animals. She lives without many common place luxuries so that her animals can be well fed and cared for. I pray that she gets the much needed help she needs for these animals. If we all were a bit like Kat the world would be a better place. If you are looking for a place to adopt or donate your time/money there is no better place.

I first volunteered with Spirit Acres in 2010 when I lived in the Conroe, TX area. I saw first-hand the quality way the horses were cared for. There are few options for unwanted or abused horses in that area, and Spirit Acres is relied heavily upon by law enforcement who rescue abused animals. I now live in Alaska, but continue to support the farm financially because I believe in the work Kat and the volunteers are doing. it's a worthwhile organization doing a great deal to help horses in difficult situations. We need Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary.

I discovered Spirit Acres Inc. when I was given "time with horses" as a Christmas present. I've been volunteering there every week for almost 3 months, and have found it one of the most rewarding and satisfying opportunities that I've ever done.

After talking to me about what kind of work I most wanted to do with the horses, Kat Matrician, the main leader at Spirit Acres, worked with me to find the right fit for my volunteer work. She's taught me bundles of information about handling horses, has been encouraging about my work, as well as been supportive as I've struggled to balance volunteer work and family responsibilities.

Rescue work requires careful balancing of needs and resources. In every aspect of the work at Spirit Acres, Inc. I see honest and careful work. Money, feed, and other supplies are used wisely and shared as fairly as possible among the horses.

Rescue of abused, hurt or abandoned horses is a surprisingly big need, and not just anyone is capable of doing the job. The work at Spirit Acres fills a big need for law enforcement officials and others in charge of making sure local animals are treated well.

I'm grateful for the friendship and compassion I've seen handed out freely at Spirit Acres, Inc. I highly recommend both monetary donations to the work and volunteer time to help these wonderful horses who need a second chance.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I'm learning hands-on experience on what it takes to care for and nurture a horse (a life-long dream I have yet to fulfill). I'm also helping with the fund-raising aspects of the non-profit work, and learning a lot in that area as well.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Provide them with more donations. Operating on a shoe-string budget is extremely hard, but they keep at the work.
