Nonprofit Issues:

Children & Youth, Human Services

Address:

San Francisco CA 94117 USA

Mission:

Project Night Night provides individual tote bags containing a security blanket, age-appropriate books, and stuffed animals to homeless children in an effort to help homeless children have sweeter dreams. Homelessness affects every facet of a child's development, increasing the risk for developmental delays, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, heath concerns, and deficient social skills. Project Night Night believes that these devastating effects can be mitigated by receiving a good night's sleep. Inadequate sleep can cause decreases in performance, concentration, learning, and health. Sleep deprivation can also increase behavior and mood problems as well as memory lapses. Children in homeless shelters do not have the luxury of falling asleep in the pristine conditions we, as parents, try to create for our children. Instead, children in shelters often endure an overcrowded, noisy, and unfamiliar environment in their quest for sleep. At Project Night Night, we hope that by receiving a package of familiar objects such as a security blanket, books, and a stuffed animal, homeless children will be able to have sweeter dreams.

I have volunteered with Project Night Night a number of times because their mission is so heart-warming, "Helping homeless children have sweeter dreams." Having children of my own, I cannot imagine the emotional struggles of homeless children and families. Working with Project Night Night has been a reminder of the good fortune with which my family has been blessed and the need to share just a little bit of those blessings.

This organization is not flashy but it is often a "flashlight" for some of the little people it may rescue in the middle of the night. We provide a teddy bear and a personal soft "blankie" for children in traumatic situations ie; being removed by social worker

Happy 10th anniversary to this amazing charity! I love being involved with Project Night Night because I can see the immediate impact of my time, talents and dollars. Now that I've established relationships with area shelters, they call throughout the year to ask for replenishments as new kids move in. And people in my community take the time to reach out to me when they have donations or want to help out with assembly. So, I know that these packages make a difference to the kids and to the volunteers that make them happen, and that is what has kept me involved.

I love Project night Night because it is a charity I can get kids involved in. I've held annual parties at my house with 40-50 kids and parents forming an assembly line creating Night Night bags and getting them off to nearby shelters. Many of the parents commented afterwards about how much fun it was to volunteer side by side with their kids and what a great chance it was to talk to their kids about helping other kids in need.

Plus as I've gotten to know the managers at shelters in NY, now several reach out to request more bags when they run low. It feels so good to know that these bags make a difference for the children, their parents entering shelters and even the shelter directors.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I'd find a way to source new blankets to reduce those costs since the blankets are new vs the books and stuffed animals which are mostly donated.

Project Night Night is the epitome of hope. The organization dedicates itself to helping children feel safe, something many of us were blessed with and are blessed with still today. The blankets and stuffed animals they donate help children feel secure at night and they have something to call their own.

I have had the privilege of delivering Night Night Packages to a shelter, and I have never seen such happy faces and pure joy in a child's face. The children radiate happiness, but so do the parents, who are so appreciative of the generosity and work of Project Night Night and its volunteers. I am continually amazed at the work it does. Kendra Robins and the rest of the PNN staff are awesome!

We have used Project Night Night in our high school as an extension of reading The Glass Castle. Students read the text, make bags for Project Night Night and as a class field trip, donate them to the local women's homeless shelter. These kids would never have considered doing a project like this without the inspiration of Project Night Night.
Thank you.

What I love most about Project Night Night is the simplicity. Three simple things that can make such a dramatic impact in a child's life. I am so proud to have worked with PNN for the last 7 years donating thousands of night night totes all over the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Nothing makes me happier than to see the joy this simple tote brings to so many children! Thank you Kendra and Jessica for your tireless energy in helping give so many kids sweeter dreams!

Project Night Night has an amazing mission of bringing comfort to vulnerable children. Their volunteers also get the amazing benefit of collecting items and stuffing bags, which offers a tangible way to help! Their Founder Kendra is an amazing leader. This is truly an exceptional nonprofit!!

I love Project Night Night and am so proud to be a part of it. Their mission is so simple yet so powerful: help shelter children feel safe and secure and get a better night's rest. By collecting and donating books, blankets and stuffed animals and putting together in a a cute tote bag, PNN has helped thousands of shelter children throughout the country to sleep better and feel some extra needed comfort and love. It is so easy to donate or volunteer for this amazing charity and both children and adults can equally be involved/support the cause.
This is PNN's 10th year so what better way to say Happy 10th Birthday than to support Project Night Night!

I am a Board Member of PNN and feel so lucky to be involved in this amazing charity. It is such a simple message: help shelter children feel secure and have a better night sleep. Something we all can relate to and want for children. And it is soooo simple to support: so many of us have gently used stuffed animals and books, and what better way to donate them than to this fantastic organization. Go PNN!!!!

I am so proud to be affiliated with Project Night Night. PNN helps thousands of shelter children each year with a special tote bag filled with simple gifts that mean so much to these children. In addition, PNN has been able to mobilize in times of tragedy (ie. Hurricane Sandy) and bring a level of security and warmth that is so necessary.
One of the many wonderful things about Project Night Night is that its easy for my children/any kids to be involved....they enjoy being able to donate their books or stuffies to children that are less fortunate, and have fun assembling the totes.
The thank you notes that PNN receives from kids, mothers, fathers, and shelters are a testament to the wonderful work that they do.

I am so proud to be associated with Project NIght Night. It is such a good hearted organization that provides much needed, but often overlooked, comfort and validation to kids living in difficult situations. I believe all children need and should be entitled to books, lovies and security blankets, and Project Night Night works to make sure all children can get them. Thank you, Project NIght Night, for remembering those things that are most important from the perspective of a child.

Project Night Night is a wonderful organization that lets you make a direct impact on the lives of homeless children. I love participating in Project Night Night with my own kids because it leads to so many productive conversations about homelessness and the importance of helping others. The concept of "homelessness" is pretty fuzzy to kids. But the notion that there are kids out there who don't have a stuffed animal or a book or a blanket, when my kids realize they have plenty of each, is very powerful. And realizing that they helped to provide those items to some other kids in need makes them feel so good.
