Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles works to reduce threats to public health related to nuclear weapons and environmental toxins.
As a physician-based advocacy organization, PSR-LA is connecting health professionals to environmental, environmental justice and public health organizations to advocate for policy change on a local, regional and state-wide level — we are creating a movement that will improve public health and prevent future harm to human health and the environment.More than 33 million Californians live in areas with elevated risks for cancer and other preventable illnesses. In the greater Los Angeles area, alone, 1.2 million people live less than two miles from a hazardous waste facility. In 2004, direct medical costs of chemical and pollution-related diseases among children and workers totaled over $2.5 billion in California.PSR-LA focuses its environmental health policy work and education on key issues — find out more about our program and coalition work in these areas:Chemical Policy ReformAir PollutionPesticidesClimate ChangeMilitary ToxinsCoalitions and Committees
