Reviews for Oldies But Goodies (Obg) Cocker Rescue

Rating: 5 stars

I have been volunteering with OBG and it has been a wonderful experience. There is constant communication between the OBG board and the membership. As a relatively new foster for the group, I had many questions and it was great to get such speedy and helpful responses. The volunteers in this group, truly have the right perspective- Finding good homes for the dogs. That is the goal and I have not seen our group steer away from that.

I am also an adopter from OBG and must say the process was thorough, but simple. To me, communication is the most important aspect to making sure volunteers as well as potential adopters understand the process. OBG does a great job with this, be it from emailing members, to publishing newsletters, or ensuring the web site it up to date. I am really impressed with this group and am so happy to have found a rescue group to be a part of.

OBG is extremely proactive in saving dogs and finding them good homes. The people in this rescue group truly care for the animals they are saving. It's refreshing to be part of an organization that puts the needs of the animals before anything else.

My wife and I have adopted 3 cockers through OBG over the years. We have so much respect for this truly wonderful organization that we have fostered 6 dogs finding them forever homes to enjoy the life they deserve. All members of OBG are devoted to helping to nurture these dogs and find them deserving homes. This is a totally volunteer organization. We also help out with fund raising to raise the money needed for vet treatments to save these mistreated dogs. I also do home checks for future fosters to make sure they are aware of the responsibility involved in fostering a dog to help prepare them for adoption. Home checks for those interested in adopting are also extremely important to ensure the adoptive family is the right fit for the dogs needs. Kudos to the group who rescued the Freedom 46! We are so proud to be associated with such a dedicated group of individuals working together for a single cause!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I have volunteered with OBG for the past year and a half, and have fostered four dogs through them who have gone on to loving homes. They are a wonderful organization to work with. Everyone I have encountered is responsive, friendly, helpful, and obviously enthusiastic about the mission of the organization. In addition to fostering, we also added to our family by adopting an OBG dog last fall. We couldn't imagine our lives without him! I would highly recommend OBG to anyone looking for a Cocker of their own, or a group to become more actively involved with. They are all around a great group of people who most importantly save the lives of countless Cockers!

We adopted two senior cockers from OBG after finding this group online and checking out the doggie biographies - one was rather quiet at first and the other had lost an eye to glaucoma, and both adjusted quickly and were delights. I was impressed that OBG had welcomed even the one-eyed wonder when other groups would not have, and impressed with the volunteers we met during the adoption process. I decided to volunteer and see what I could help with, and have done lots of different things, and continue to be impressed with the unflagging enthusiasm and dedication and love that underlies all that we all do locally and regionally and even reaching halfway across the country if there is a cocker or mix who needs us, and other rescues and volunteers to work with. We will take the tough cases that cause others to hesitate, as well as the easier ones, and all completely change canine and human lives. I'd give OBG more stars, but I cannot, so imagine a few more stars added to the five here.

I have had the privilege of adopting three pairs of cocker spaniels from OBG over the last 15 years and have found the volunteers to be just terrific at honestly explaining the quirks of the dogs I have adopted, giving advice on how to help them adjust to new homes and keeping in touch after the adoptions occurred. I never worry about whether my donations to OBG are being used appropriately. It is a wonderful organization.

I have fostered eight dogs for OBG. I like helping people get a dog to love. Everyone associated with OBG that I have met, either in person or by email, has been wonderful. It is great to see the transformation these dogs go through to make them more adoptable.

Oldies But Goodies (OBG) Cocker Spaniel Rescue is an outstanding organization that saves about 300 dogs per year. They have contacts up and down the East Coast and knowledgable shelters and veterinarians know to call them if they have a cocker or a cocker mix that needs rescue. OBG has also rescued dogs that are not cockers because shelters will often ask it they can take the animal. They even had an honorary dog--a cat! This organization is exceptional in that they provide vet care, necessary surgeries, vaccinations, and dentals. Veterinarians in the Northern VA area work with them and provide necessary care at a reduced rate and many provide boarding until a foster can be established. They also work to heal dogs that have been abused. OBG is a volunteer only organization and has no paid workers. They have hearts of gold and do what it takes to save an animal.

This is a wonderful all-volunteer rescue group. All of the volunteers are passionate about rescue and saving the lives of these precious babies. They work diligently to find homes for the furbabies in the rescue. All monies received go for the care of the dogs they are responsible for. I have fostered and adopted many of their senior and special needs cockers over the years and am honored to work with such a wonderful group of people.
