As Little Sisters of the Poor of Pittsburgh, we care for the elderly poor in the spirit of humble service which we have received from Jeanne Jugan. We welcome the elderly as we would Jesus Christ himself and serve them with love and respect until death.
The Little Sisters have 36 licensed skilled nursing care beds in the Pittsburgh Home. Currently all of the beds are occupied and the Home maintains an extensive waiting list for those seeking admission. The two criteria for admission are age and financial need.

I have always know of Little Sisters of the Poor and the home they had in Garfield, Pa. caring for the elderly poor. Have seen them at our Pittsburgh Airport asking for donations. When an elderly Uncle passed away a few years ago, he had collected a lot of misc. boxed and canned goods, some being expired. We called numerous places, like food banks etc. and NO ONE would take this perfectly good food. I finally called the Little Sisters, and spoke to one of the sisters in charge. Quickly they said yes, that they would accept the food. Two of the sisters (in their habits - one very elderly) drove an extremely large van to my Uncle's house, and we loaded all the food into it. If you are poor and hungry, an expiration date shouldn't make that much of a difference to you. I had assured them it was in a very clean and dry home. Another time after we had remodeled our kitchen, I had a perfectly good Kitchenaid black front dishwasher, that I was replacing cause I wanted stainless steel appliances. Again called, and they sent over 2 men that accepted it on their behalf and took it away. To me that is proof of their commitment to serving the poor. They are at the top of our list that we send donations to.
