Reviews for Hands Across The Sea, Inc.

Rating: 4 stars

Hands Across the Sea is an amazing organization!!! It links students and teachers in the Caribbean with relevant resources and books, many written by local Caribbean Authors. I am a returned Peace Corps Volunteer and partnered with Hands Across the Sea for about three years. The organization assists with organizing fundraising, communicates with in country staff, ensures to meet needs of individual schools, and follows through with setting up of libraries once books have arrived.
Because of the partnership with Hands Across the Sea- the L'Esterre Rosary School in Carriacou, Grenada now has a functioning library with circulating books and learning materials.

Hands Across The Sea provided my school with an excellent selection of books for young readers, and additionally included a library starter kit, which has helped organize what was once a broom closet into a small library for our students. The ease of working with Hands Across The Sea paired with the quality of the books they provide is just incredible. Thank you Hands Across the Sea!

Hands Across the Sea keeps getting better and better and doing more for Caribbean children starved for good books to read. The evolution from delivering books and building libraries to creating sustainable educational change for thousands of children over the past 7 years is remarkable! With so little, this organization does so much. They should be applauded for their tireless dedication and passion. A generation of children has been positively impacted by the work of Hands Across the Sea.

The work done by Hands Across The Sea, Inc far outweighs expectations. My school has been served for the past four years and i am impressed with the level of accountability maintained. The books provided have greatly enhanced the literacy program at the Tete Morne Primary School. The students are excited to check books out and the love for reading has grown. The school's goal is to have every child who is not otherwise hampered reading at grade level within the next three years.

I love the operations of the organization, the way in which the school needs are checked, books provided in a timely manner, visits from personnel of Hands Across Seas and the eagerness shown by the workers to help. God bless you and may he multiply your giving back to you a hundred fold

As the literacy link for Dominica, I'm happy to be part of this passionate, hard-working and effective team helping to get great books into the hands of students. It's inspiring to see first hand the school library transformations and the increased interest in books and reading, due to the organisation's efforts and close, "hands on", relationships with schools. Hands Across The Sea are really able to make a significant difference, encouraging a love of reading in students, many of whom would have minimal or no access to interesting books that they genuinely enjoy reading.

Books and access to books are often taken for granted in many countries but, other than school text books, too many children in Dominica do not have books at home or easy access to a library. Limited finances, lack of book stores and the high cost of books mean that they are often low on the list of priorities in many homes and schools. Hands Across the Sea with the help of dedicated and passionate volunteers and school staff are doing an amazing job here in Dominica, building bright and comfortable school libraries and stocking their shelves with stimulating and relevant children's books. I have seen what a big difference the world of books, literature and poetry can make in the lives of the children (and often their parents too).
I like the "hands on" and practical way the organisation works, finding out the specific needs of each school, visiting the schools, providing books relevant for Caribbean children, working closely with the teachers and giving detailed feedback to donors. Celia Sorhaindo

On behalf of the Pares Secondary School in Antigua, we wish to say a heartfelt thank you to Hands Across the Sea, Inc. Their donation to our School Library has greatly increased our Literacy Program, by providing materials from which our students can benefit. As the School's Librarian; I have observed that our students are greatly motivated and excited to read more often because of the variety of books we have received from Hands. We are very grateful and look forward to continued relationship with them! Stephanie D. Caesar-Maxime, Teacher/Librarian

Speaking on behalf of a learning institution which has been fortunate enough to benefit first hand from their generous contributions, I can honestly state that the organisation has made a profound impact in literacy at the schools in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Hands has succeeded in creating a heightened state of awareness re, the importance of reading as part of the holistic development of the individual.
