Reviews for Georgeanns Homeless Hounds & Foster Program Of Florida Inc

Rating: 1 stars

We picked up our puppy on July 26th at the Walgreens. Two days later she developed diarrhea- that turned to blood within 2 days after that. Long 3 week story short- She had whip, hook and tape worms. She developed a UTI. She also had COCCIDIA. $3700 on vet bills for 4 blood transfusions, 4 different antibiotics and IV fluids. Albon is the antibiotic that was able to show improvement. Our life for the past three weeks has centered around getting her healthy- our world stopped- time off of work and NEVER leaving her home alone. We should have read reviews of 'the non-profit' prior to getting our puppy- but if you like us didn't start with treating for whip, tape and hook worms (which incubation period is 13 days) and Coccidia- it will save you alot of money and may save your pets life. Many nights we went to bed not sure if she would make it. Any research will show these infestations of worms and bacterias can be avoided with cleanliness- Georgeanns is a puppy mill that doesn't care about the welfare of the animals and using non profit status for profit.

DO NOT BUY A PET FROM THIS RESCUE!! I paid $350 cash for a German Shepard puppy and two days after bringing him home he developed the virus Parvo. Inculcation time is 4-6 days of this deadly virus. I called Georgeann and she told me, "put the puppy down and we'll give you a new one." $5000 later our puppy is healthy and happy. We were never given a FL medical certificate with purchase. These people are uncaring. I wouldn't doubt if they're running a puppy mill. They will not allow you to come to their "ranch" and they will only accept cash. Very shady business. I feel sorry for all the dogs there. If we wouldn't of adopted our beloved puppy, Georgeann would of put him down. Don't buy for Georgeann! You will end up with a sick, undernourished pet and if you don't have $ to treat the illness you will end up seeing your puppy suffer and then pay to put him/her down.

So, here's the deal. Giving up a beloved pet is incredibly sad, upsetting and difficult on levels only true animal lovers understand. No matter the circumstances, another animal needs a safe place where s/he is loved and cared for. Even the best rescues cannot claim 100% success with every rescue; but those rescues save every single one they can and give 100% of themselves to give that animal a shot at a good life. I met GeorgeAnn and George many years ago while working in the veterinary field. I had my own rescue and worked in that field for 17.5 years. I knew them when they had their rescue in St. Pete in their home. After a couple of instances where previous owners showed up drunk causing a disturbance in their neighborhood (long after that pet was re-homed in better circumstances than ever before), they decided they do not have to run their program that way. Since moving to their new location, I have been there literally at least 70 times over the years, some visits being last minute rescues. Every single time I went, there was a new fence, a new shelter. Not only have I been there, but I had a specialist and veterinary technicians there accompanying me before to help them save a cow. Yes, part of their program has been for rescued farm life as well. I personally know the veterinarian they use and other community people with whom they network. I have never seen a problem, have been on their property and in their home. I have interacted with them personally many, many times over the years. When they needed me professionally, they called on me to help. They call their veterinarian when needed. Now, to address where they meet people. Their home is closed to the public and open by personal invitation only. When they once made an exception for a previous owner for me, the woman wanted to bring a t-shirt that smelled like her and wanted to make sure her dog was adjusting okay. She came twice with me. Each time, upon their leaving, the dog went into a deep depression and didn't eat for 3 days. Sad and unhealthy for the animal. Previous owners, despite the heartache of the circumstances they find themselves in, need to let go. In addition, being open by invitation only is a safety issue for all involved. These are two people who have dedicated their entire lives to helping animals. They give up their entire lifestyle to do so. It is extremely hard work and I hold them in very high regard. Those people who talk smack, based on nothing but conjecture and speculation and vicious rumors need to stop. True rescue is only effective if people work together. If you aren't willing to be a part of the solution, then just walk away.

WHAT is going on with this adoption place??? I was considering adopting from them myself... But The reviews are heart wrenching. I literally almost cried after reading the one about the puppy DYING in her arms after days of IV treatments and syringe feedings. I've never been there, but Something is def wrong at this 'Georgannes' place. I can tell from the people's posts- to the owners responses, that there's validity here. I think they need to be inspected and most certainly George and Georgeanne Sheila need to do this ::
Consider in your heart and mind that one day... Maybe not far from today, you will take your last breath. All that you have done will pass before your eyes ... You'll see the pain you've caused these people and feel a heavy guilt that you cannot imagine. Your last thoughts before leaving this world will be ...wishing you had made better choices. Now really, do you think it's wise to cause so many people and animals heart break over a few hundred bucks?
Just remember, you can't take that money with you, when God calls your name. You may only take the memories of who you were in this world. Now go look in the mirror.
Are you happy with what kind of person you are?

Worst decision I have made in years. These people wanted to meet in a wallgreens parking lot. I thought it over and didn't like it, but said hey, your saving a puppy and paying a decent price right... so I did it. Bad mistake! Packed my two kid up for the hour and a half ride. We met George and georgeannesheila with the pups. after about 25 min. of deciding, I go to my truck parked next to theirs to get the cash, while georgeSheila hands over a squirming puppy to my 5 yr old daughter. She drops the puppy. They say "thats it, were done." They pick the pup up, don't even look at it to see if its hurt, put the dog into the crate, and start to back out. So I say hey what did we do? George screams "you EFFING dropped my dog on the ground." Who screams the eff word at a 5 yr old? why would you hand over Your puppy to a 5yr old and not make sure it was safe? Why did we meet on the back of a pickup in a parking lot? So many questions. This would have been my 4th German Shep. to live with me since 1978. Don't waste your time with these jokers. It's 10pm, my kids are still crying over this. Thanks professionals...

After losing our 9 yr old toy poodle a year ago after her rabies shot, I posted what I was looking for on Adopt A Pet. I have been notified many times of a possible match but it was never what I was looking for until this past weekend. There she was, the little Pom/ Poodle teacup. I called the number to Georganns Homeless Hounds and spoke with her and her hubby. I discussed the 4.5 hr trip and the puppy with my hubby and called them back that evening to schedule an appointment to come and see her. I met them in Sugar Mill and immediately fell in love with our tiny new puppy. I did as I was instructed and got back home with our new little one all safe and sound and she was hungry when she got here. She has eaten well and eliminated normally and we are thrilled to have her in our home here on the ranch. She is so cute and healthy and happy and fun. She won our hearts and we are so happy that we stepped out in faith and met two wonderful animal loving people. I commend you for your work and passion to rescue animals and am happy to have met you both. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience and keep up the good work! Hugs, Marsha

To all the ones who have bad things to say about this foster pogram you should realy thank about what you are doing with no facts. If you close a rescue down you have sent a lot of kids to there death. Then if you are going to say provo you should have the vet. prove it. It could be nothing other then hooks, rounds or tapes. One case they told the parent it was parvo and all it was coxceida or gardia so for 45,00 dollars the puppy was find. And i could go on and on but why? Most of the time people that wright these bad thimgs never wright back and say they were wrong. Most of all this web page was made for peple who had a good repore with a rescue or foster pogram not for a knock page. And you had only two puppies with suposid provo what about the rest of the puppys that are happy and healthy and there was 6 rotties & 5 rotties/mixies. Why are they not dead? And were is the proof your puppys are? Oh because you say so. Most of the time a vet.would call when there is a break out , so the group can get help for the rest of the anaimls in the homes. So with that you ladies have a good day.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Nothing

This response is rather lengthy, but I feel compelled to defend Homeless Hounds against the claims made by sunflower93 and PUPPYLOVER101. I am very familiar with Georgeann’s Homeless Hounds and hope that you will read this before allowing such negative feedback to keep you from adopting from this wonderful foster/rescue.

First off sunflower93, you did not BUY a puppy, you adopted one. As far as meeting in a Walgreens parking lot, where do both of you find the problem with that? Why would you risk having an unknown person(s) come to your home? I sure wouldn’t. There are several other rescues that meet in the same parking lot because of it being public and well lit. Also, PUPPYLOVER101, you met her in Homosassa because that’s where you were told the adoption was to take place, which you knew from the beginning. That statement makes no sense whatsoever.

Secondly, to claim that both puppies had Parvo is ludicrous and ignorant, and PUPPYLOVER101, why would anyone in their right mind even adopt a puppy when you “noticed that she didn’t look well?” I saw both litters of puppies and all of them were healthy, well cared for, never socialized with other dogs or each other, and came from a very clean environment. If your puppies had Parvo, every puppy in those litters, as well as any other puppies in the same environment, would be dead instead of having healthy and happy lives in their new homes, all save one. The last puppy was supposed to get his home, but the adopter backed out at the last minute. Hopefully, it wasn’t because she read your shameful posts.

Parvo is contracted from oral contact of infected feces and usually takes 5-10 days, and even up to 2 weeks to show up. A serum test (ELISA) can be performed for a quick diagnosis, but false negatives do occur. The more precise tests are required at outside laboratories. It’s protocol for the vet who diagnosed the illness and/or animal control to contact the rescue, which didn’t happen. So how is it that your puppies, from two different healthy litters, were diagnosed with Parvo seemingly overnight? Were the puppies hospitalized, hydrated or given antibiotics or some other type of medication? Did you get death certificates? Since this is such a serious virus, there is no way, sunflower93, that your puppy would “seem to be getting a lot better and now it looks like she has only a couple hours left to live.” Another parent who adopted from the same litter took their puppy to the vet and had a Parvo test run. There was no sign of the virus.

Thirdly, sunflower93, that woman’s name is Georgeann and she would never ADOPT out a sick puppy. If you’re going to make malicious and vindictive claims, then at least get your facts straight. The only awful and nasty people in these scenarios are the two of you. I’ve dealt with very few people who love and care for their animals like she does. In fact, the Humane Society of the United States, the Humane Society of Pinellas, SPCA of Hernando County, Hernando County Animal Control along with several veterinarians have established that any adverse claims made against her rescue/foster program were UNFOUNDED. You can get a copy of the report from Hernando Co. Animal Control. Even Connie Brooks, executive director of the SPCA Largo, along with a cruelty officer, went out to Georgeann’s property in response to a false claim and found absolutely nothing wrong.

I happen to know that at the end of each adoption, she tells the adopter that if they have any problem with their puppy to call her immediately, and she will attempt to resolve the situation in any way that she can. However, what both of you did was call and start screaming at her after the so-called events (PUPPYLOVER101, I’d hang up on you too if all you did was scream at me). Making sure that both the puppy and adopter are happy is of the utmost importance to her. What I would really like to know is why you two didn’t behave like mature and sensible adults, call Georgeann immediately, and try to work things out with her instead of attacking her in such a hateful manner?

So, each of you adopted a puppy from a different healthy litter approximately 10 days apart; they both became ill and diagnosed with Parvo within a day or so; they both died suddenly; Homeless Hounds should be shut down; and both of these claims were posted on the same day. It almost appears that both of these posts were scripted—just an observation.

After reading the malicious allegations made against Homeless Hounds I was absolutely stunned. By the way, for those of you who don't know what an allegation is, it means that you asserted that something was true WITHOUT PROOF! Not one shred of evidence has ever been presented to back up your ridiculous claims, which are just vicious and cowardly. Your actions are nothing but a witch hunt out to destroy one of the best rescues I've ever dealt with. Oh, and let's not forget that her lawyer offered hush money, which is a statement too inane to dignify with a response.

You people say that closing down rescues is for the good of the animals. What about those legitimate rescues you take pride in shutting down? When they're no longer operational, you tell me how many animals are "saved" when good rescues aren't there to take them anymore?

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the lengths in which this exceptional and compassionate couple will go in order to make sure an animal has the best possible care and love.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do absolutely nothing. Far be it for me to even think I could do a better job than George and Georgeann.

Was your donation impactful?

Definitely

How likely is it that you would recommend that a friend donate to this group?

Definitely

How likely are you to donate to this group again?

Definitely

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?

My purpose was and is to bring unwanted animals to Homeless Hounds, including those that have disabilities. George and Georgeann don't even hesitate to take those with special needs.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

My donations are given to help with the care of the animals until they can find a forever home.

What would you tell others about this organization?

That anyone can rest assured that Homeless Hounds will take care of all an animal's needs, including lots of love.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

There is a great deal of information on the internet about parvo and other alments that efect puppies and dogs .
Please educate yourself before you offer your opinion.
Myself finds it difficult to Belive that people would adopt an animal that was sick and pay an adoption fee .
Then would not take it for a second opinion from a second. Vet.
Instead they want to blame the rescue or breeder for there STUPITY.
These people also feel that they can have a rescue or breeder closed down.
AGAIN PLEASE EDUCATE yourself before you voice a STUPID opinion.
I also find it a mark of this socicity that a lot of people want to get something for nothing.
If you want insurance on the health of the pet there are places that can provide that.
It is up to you not animal control , the S.P.C.A , HUMANE SOCITY , THE BREEDER OR RESCURE SO GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND DO YOUR HOME WORK BEFOR YOU VOICE AN OPINION.
AND GET YOUR OWN INSURANCE ON YOUR NEW PET.
