With CARES my family has gained knowledge and compassion for our community. Our children love volunteering. CARES has paved the path for our children to become compassionate adults. We are so grateful to have found CARES! Thanks to CARES our children are sharing their experiences with their peers.

I found a Rottweiller wandering the neighborhood, and Diane came over to check for a chip. CARES listed kittens we fostered on their website, and they found homes. We had a cat in foster that needed surgery, and Diane took him to their vet, who charged us 1/4 what another vet quoted. If I have a question or problem, they are there. CARES really cares about each and every animal.

Like many people, I have walked thru animal shelters, county shelters, private and non profit. Sometimes I leave with a broken heart. CARES, run by two dedicated ladies, Lisa Lewis and Diane Konitz, is different. Waaay different! CARES is the kind of shelter you walk thru and breathe a sigh of relief! These fur babies live in a home atmosphere, where the kitchen has food smells as the volunteers prepare their meals; the washing machine is humming; the TV is on all day, and love and peanut butter bones abound! The yards, with their kiddie pools, are manicured and secure. Much thought has gone into the needs and safety concerns of each yard. This is as close to a "real home" as anyone can get. CARES fur babies are much more adapted to this lifestyle, which makes the transition into their forever home an easy one. CARES is not only helping to save their broken lives, but to get them emotionally ready for a new one! If you ever get a chance to visit this shelter, this awesome rescue, you will sleep better at night, I promise!

CARES co-founders, Lisa and Diane, have helped countless animals over the years. As I have often said, they have hearts bigger than their wallets, but that does not stop them from taking on the most needy dogs. They are also involved with the homeless dogs in our county. I have been fortunate to volunteer for them for several years, and have found that they are relentless in their efforts. My current foster came to us hairless, embedded collar, low thyroid, and one miserable pup. Thru their love and medical care with Dr. Jones, this little girl is now learning trust of humans, something she obviously never had. CARES has changed my life by showing me the true meaning of helping animals. CARES is a small rescue with a big heart.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do nothing. Even tho their rescue is one of the nicest, cleanest I have ever seen, their dogs are top priority, and it shows.

CARES is a small rescue with a big heart and a passion for saving lives. Almost all our dogs are saved from death row at our local animal services. Our director, Lisa Lewis, seems to choose the souls that need the most help; the sick, injured, needing surgery, etc. Her heart is bigger than our wallet! :) We do as many adoption events and fund raisers that we can so this shelter may continue. Our fur kids live on 5 acres in a mobile home dedicated just to them. This is the cleanest, most dog friendly shelter I have ever seen! CARES tries very hard to give them an environment that will teach them how to better live in their "furever" home, making them more adoptable. Love is the key ingredient. I always said "I could never volunteer, I would bring them all home!" Seeing them sad and rejected from death row, then giving them food, a bath and shelter, and knowing they are safe, their personality changes to one of happiness and joy! The biggest reward a volunteer can have! Thank you CARES. Our community is learning compassion for animals with you in our lives.

I adopted a beautiful, well-adjusted Cocker Spaniel, Sailor (formerly Dugan), from CARES about 4 months ago. Lisa & the staff were amazing. Very friendly & helpful. And still supportive to this day. All the dogs were very well cared for & in great health. The facility is like nothing I've experienced before. All customized (inside & out) to meet the needs of the dogs. Extremely clean. When I'm ready for number 3, I will definitely return to adopt from CARES. I highly recommend CARES to anyone looking to add a fur-baby to their family.

I met Lisa at CARES about 5 years ago and was immediately impressed with her concern over each dog. A clean,
homey shelter, kind volunteers. CARES takes dogs that are broken physically and emotionally and puts them back together, time is not an issue, however long it takes. I've taken several of her little guys to Tampa to see an eye specialist and some were able to have cataract surgery and see again. I could go on and on with this review and never cover all the positives aspects of the people who make up the CARES organization.

On my first visit I left with by sweet boy named Benny, a take charge little Silky Terrier. He came right in to my home, claimed the largest dog bed and looked at me and I understood he was home. Benny was a joy to me every day of his life. Subsequently other CARES furbabies came into my life too, each enriching my life.

I tell people; If you're really looking for love, skip Match.com and just go to CARES and find your soulmate and save a wonderful pet who had no future before CARES.

CARES helps so many wonderful animals out of the kill shelters and takes the time to place them in a home that can be a success. Recently, they rescued a large collie/lab mix that would have been euthanized due to crowding at the shelter - he was a wonderful, friendly handsome boy with melting brown eyes. But what was remarkable was that he had a BFF that was a goat. CARES took the time to rescue to goat too and had a wonderful forever family placement waiting for the pair. They are an incredible example of how rescue begins in the community and that funds sent to local rescues go further, faster and save more that most people can imagine. I am both a volunteer and client of CARES and continue to be humbled by their courage and stamina.

I adopted Henry (Pivot) from cares. The staff was awesome to work with and clearly cared very much about Henry and all the other animals there. I am so thankful for the work they do saving and caring for abandoned and/or abuses animals. It is that kind of dedication that shows me there is still good in this world. Without cares, I wouldn't have this wonderful, kind and lovable soul in my life who managed to still a piece of my heart and heal a void that had been present since the passing of my boxer Sienna. Thank you cares for giving back to my family something we thought we would never find or have again! Added bonus: they work very hard with the animals in their care. Henry, even as a youngster, was fully potty trained, crate trained and very well socialized when he came home. You guys are amazing! :)

I have been a weekly volunteer at CARES since August 2014. Every dog that is lucky enough to end up at CARES is thoroughly socialized before Lisa allows it to be adopted into its fur-ever home. Their personal traits and characteristics are matched up so that they end up with families that will give them the love, care, and attention that some of them have never experienced. There are times that animals must be returned; when that happens, they are welcomed back into the CARES family until they can be matched up with another lucky family. All these animals want is to give and to receive love...that begins with their journey into the CARES family. I highly recommend any of these dogs to anyone ready to make a lifetime commitment to these precious animals.

CARES does such wonderful work, I can't imagine not supporting them. We found our little girl Buttons through CARES and was very thankful for the background check they did on us. They showed they really cared about her and about us being the perfect match. They take in all sizes of pups and cats. We see them at most festivals and adoption events around town. Lots of volunteers loving the animals each time we see them. Thankful for Lisa, Diane and the rest of their crew for caring so much!

Lisa and CARES connected us to our sweet fur babies! We were so impressed at how she and the volunteers ran the facility. They are a caring and professional bunch truly providing a great service! Kudos to CARES for saving so many animals and providing quality accommodations and treatment for animals until they reach their forever homes! I love how thorough Lisa was when we adopted our dogs. Walking us through all the treatments and records they had on them and providing dietary info and advice on vets to use, how often to get vaccinations, etc. I highly recommend this shelter to those looking to adopt or for those looking for a cause to support!
