The mission of the ymca is to put judeo-christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The ymca is a cause-driven association that is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. (cont on sch o) that's because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Financial assistance is available to any person who cannot afford to pay the full price for any ymca program or membership. All ymca programs are available to men, women and children of every age, race, religion, income and ability. The ymca of the treasure coast serves indian river, martin, okeechobee and st. Lucie counties. The programs offered in all four counties promote the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The ymca of the treasure coast strives to answer the diverse and various needs of our communities through continuous program development and outreach.

Ymca aquatics:ymca aquatics programs are part of the ymca's overall goal of building healthy spirit, mind and body. In addition to providing specific swimming and water safety skills, they promote good health through regular exercise. They also promote teamwork, self-confidence and leadership. These programs are offered at fees affordable to the community at large with financial assistance for those who can not afford the full fee. Our aquatics programs are designed to prevent deaths and water related injuries. Last year, we provided aquatics programs for thousands of people, infants through seniors. (cont. On sch. O)(ymca aquatics cont. ) approximately 715 children and 30 adults took swim lessons at the ymca, including children with special needs. We catered to the needs of seniors in the pool with water fitness classes and aqua aerobics. Teens learned lifeguarding skills in our life guarding classes, and 100 people participated in the cpr and first aid classes learning valuable lifesaving skills. In addition to the scholarship offered for all of the above programs, over 300 children were also served with minimal-cost swim lessons through "y" splash in indiantown and stuart. The ymca branch in indiantown has the only public swimming pool in the surrounding area. As a result, many members of this low-income community have had very little exposure to water. Over 650 indiantown residents benefited from community swim day and teen swim events held during summer. These activities allowed the community to pay a subsidized rate for access to the pool.

ymca childcare & family life programs:we are for youth development. Our pre-school and after school programs are designed to develop each child's mind, body and spirit. The teaching curriculums in teddy bear academy and the indiantown preschool prepare children for kindergarten. Academic development is not the sole focus, however, as physical and spiritual growth are encouraged through swimming, gymnastics, arts and crafts, music and the teaching of the ymca core values. The ymca of the treasure coast cares for infants and over 180 pre-school children in (2) locations, ymca teddy bear academy and the ymca indiantown pre-school. The majority of children in pre-school received ymca financial assistance. (cont. Sch. O)(ymca childcare & family life programs cont. ) the ymca also provides a safe and structured environment for over 350 children with its after school program in multiple locations. Assistance with homework, swimming and skating are all part of this program. The ymca provided several children financial assistance. In 2005, the ymca began a literacy program called yreads! Through a grant from the department of education. Volunteer reading mentors spend one-on-one reading time with each child. Over 300 children significantly improved their reading skills due to this program. Many children learned to read english for the first time. Ymca summer camps offer children a host of activities that provide new opportunities and learning experiences. Field trips, guest speakers and socializing with other children open their minds to new information and possibilities. Camp also provides participants opportunities to learn the importance of teamwork and strong leadership skills. Each week of camp has a set schedule and a host of physical activities including swimming and skating. The number of past campers who now wish to volunteer their time with the program highlights the positive impact ymca camp has on the lives of children. In any given summer, over 1,600 campers were served at the multiple ymca summer camp locations. Scholarships are available in all child care programs. This means that all parents regardless of their financial situation have the security of accessing the same quality of childcare for their children of all ages. The indiantown branch provided over 50 children with a "why you matter" program which allowed each child to experience career oriented seminars and/or field trips. Successful community leaders such as small business owners, politicians, and corporations shared life experiences with the children every friday. The ymca recognizes the importance of having activities that involve the entire family. Many programs are specifically designed to promote this, such as playful parenting, and parent/child swim classes. The ymca hosts halloween parades and thanksiving stone soup luncheons that provide opportunities for parents and their children to be together as a family.

ymca sports & recreation:ymca sports are open to all ages and abilities. Adult sports provide a physical and social outlet for participants while youth sports provide all participants the chance to play, learn and improve their skills. Family togetherness comes naturally, as many parents become volunteer coaches for their child's team. The ymca wellness center cares for and about members of all ages, sizes, shapes and abilities. Over 250 people received financial assistance for ymca membership, which allowed them to help gain a healthier lifestyle, have fun and make friends at the ymca. All ymca members receive the same membership benefits regardless (cont. On sch. O) (ymca sports & recreation cont. ) of whether or not they are receiving assistance. Recognizing the need to channel the energy of teenagers and also to help tackle weight and health issues, the y wellness staff developed the teen fitness program to introduce young people to good habits in exercise, wellness and nutrition. In order to assist the senior citizens of the community and those who have special needs due to physical impairments, the ymca also runs specialized exercise classes, such as stretch 'n flex. Over 2,200 children and adults participated in various ymca sporting activities, with an additional 2,000 young girls and boys who participated in ymca recreational and competitive gymnastics programming at ymca sportsworld. Sportsworld also provided roller hockey to 210 children. Each friday night, sportsworld hosts a teen skate night. This event allows teenagers to socialize, exercise and have fun in a safe, clean and well-supervised environment, while keeping them off the streets and out of trouble. This weekly event is attended by an average of 100 young people.

membership revenues - memberships allow access to ymca sites and use of some facilities with no additional fee; members also qualify for reduced fees for program services.
