Women's Employment Network Overview
Programs: WEN’s Dimensions program includes four areas of service for our clients.
First, there is WEN’s Personal Social Support Services. WEN staff works with every woman that comes to us to discover their individual struggles with barriers to finding and maintaining employment. Needed referrals can be provided in cases such as with domestic violence, substance abuse, mental or physical health issues. Referrals can also be provided for less acute issues such as rent, utility, food, childcare or transportation assistance.
WEN offers a training program for Employment Readiness and Career Transitioning. In this five week program that WEN offers up to eight times per year, women learn how to assess their work skills, match their skills with their work preferences, dress for an interview and work environment, prepare resumes, search for jobs online, and practice interviewing techniques in mock interviews.
When the women are finishing their five-week training program and are starting their search for sustainable employment they work with our Career Specialist. WEN has a Job Search Lab with computers, fax machine, copier and printer that is available to the graduates to use for online employment listings and to post their resumes. Every Monday, WEN hosts Job Club meetings for graduates to come together and strengthen their social support system while they are searching for employment. WEN staff is available to help with resume updates and employment referrals.
WEN staff provides Community Outreach. WEN staff goes out into our community to provide presentations and trainings to such groups as women’s organizations, domestic violence shelters, and homes for unwed mothers, etc. This is in response to WEN’s knowledge that there is a very great need in our widespread community and our desire to overcome the geographical barriers that would prevent those from learning about our services or utilizing them.
