Programs:

WAG Rescue has a projected operating budget of $60,000 which is needed to service 80 dogs per year.  The average cost per dog in our foster care is $250-$1000.  Dogs coming to us with serious medical problems such as heartworms are very expensive to treat.  We currently have 3 dogs that are heartworm positive.  Upon arrival each dog is examined by a Veterinarian and brought current on vaccinations and tested for heartworms and intestinal parasites.  Heartworm positve dogs will be treated.  WAG Rescue will also have the dog spayed or neutered.

Our intake of dogs since June 2009 has been over 44 which makes it perfectly clear that we will be taking in approximately 20 or more dogs per quarter. Although we receive $175 for each adoption, by the time we take them to our veterinarians for examination, tests and shots to make sure they are healthy, and pay for monthly food and preventive medication, we find the adoption amount does not recoup our costs. We are just so happy to be able to have the dogs go to a loving and good home.

Our dogs stay in our system on average 8-10 weeks.  However, some dogs are not ready for adoption until they are completely well, as with heartworm treatment.  For those dogs, their stay in our foster system can be upwards of 4 months.  There are also dogs we have rescued who may never be adopted due to age or illness.  WAG Rescue will continue to care for these dogs and thankfully we have wonderful foster families that have given these dogs a home for life.

Right now our main focus is on the Operating Budget and filling that void will give us the security to help all the dogs we must take in. This goal is first and foremost in fulfilling the dream of Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue.
