WMCA began operating in 1965, charged with addressing the causes and consequences of poverty in a rural area roughly the size of the state of Connecticut. Simply put, our mission is to advocate for, strengthen and coordinate all resources that will assist us in promoting the self-sufficiency and independence of people. Broad service categories are childcare, housing, job training and career building, health care, and family development. WMCA uses a holistic approach as we work with needy families, helping them to help themselves. Building community capacity and strong partnerships is an example of one of our 12 guiding principles.
