Avera is a health ministry rooted in the gospel. Our mission is to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by christian values.
During the period july 1, 2013 to june 30, 2014, the avera marshall foundation accomplished the following:a) capital campaign for avera cancer institute marshall - the avera marshall foundation continued its capital campaign through fy 2014. Fundraising efforts were localized to campaign committee members making individual asks to persons and businesses in the community and surrounding areas. The foundation also partnered with the city of marshall during the city's sounds of summer celebration in september 2013. A community picnic was offered on the first night of the celebration with the foundation paying for all food and accepting free-will donations towards the campaign for avera cancer institute marshall. B) equipment purchases - the avera marshall foundation funded the following equipment purchases for avera marshall:* wheelchairs for morningside heights care center* ventilator for ccu* clothes dryer for morningside heights care centerc tough enough - fundraising and awareness for cancer services continued for our sixth year at the lyon county prca rodeo. D) golf tournament - the annual avera marshall golf tournament was held in september to continue fundraising efforts for avera cancer institute marshall. Over 100 participants assisted with the success of this event. E) n. Ben weiner scholarship - the avera marshall foundation awarded $5,000 in scholarships to employees of avera marshall. Recipients were selected from applications and approved by the foundation board. F) avera medical group scholarship - the avera marshall foundation awarded two, $1,000 scholarships to high school students in the region who are majoring in a medical related field. One marshall senior high student and one student from the surrounding communities were selected for the scholarship in the spring of 2014. G) evan carrow funds - the avera marshall foundation purchased a mental health screening kit for the marshall high school, specifically geared towards youth. H) baby blankets & hats - avera marshall had 507 deliveries in fy 2014. The avera marshall foundation provides materials for area volunteers to knit and sew baby hats and blankets - enough to provide one each, free of charge, to each baby born at avera marshall. I) pediatric pillowcases - avera marshall foundation provides materials for area volunteers to sew pillowcases for the pediatric patients of avera marshall. Pediatric patients admitted to the hospital are given a special pillowcase that will be used during their hospital stay, and they are allowed to take it home upon discharge, free of cost. J) grateful patient mailing - each month, a mailing is sent out from the avera marshall foundation to the previous months' patients (age 50+) of avera marshall asking for a donation. During fy 2014, the program was focused on fundraising for avera cancer institute marshall. All mailings are compliant with hippa requirements. K) employee crisis - the avera marshall foundation has a fund specifically for helping avera marshall employees in times of crisis. The fund is mainly supported by donations from employees. For an employee in a need, a request form is filled out and turned into the hr officer for determination. Up to $250 in cash is given to the employee if approved. L) misc - other items supported by the avera marshall foundation during fy 2014 include:* esther's kitchen: $250 in utensils and small cooking accessories were purchased and donated. * books for chemo patients - avera marshall offers inspirational books to chemotherapy patients upon admission and discharge to the program. * donation towards medical mission efforts by "friends of the orphans"
