Vegan Outreach

Rating: 4.6 stars   10 reviews

Issues: Animals, Environment, Health, Religion

Location: PO Box 30865 Tucson AZ 85751 USA

Mission: Vegan Outreach is dedicated to reducing animal sufferingby promoting informed, ethical eating. 99% of animals killed in the U.S. each year die tobe eaten; Vegan Outreach is working to expose andend cruelty to animals through the widespread distributionof our illustrated booklets (pdfs): WhyVegan, EvenIf You Like Meat, and CompassionateChoices, along with our follow-up Guideto Cruelty-Free Eating. As a Vegan Outreach activist, anyone, anywhere, inany situation can be the best possible spokespersonfor the animals. Our booklets have been distributedby many individuals and organizations, from middleschool students to animal advocacy organizations (e.g.,FARM, FarmSanctuary, TheFund for Animals, InDefense of Animals, Peta,Mercy forAnimals, etc.). Your donationwill put more booklets into more people''s hands.
Programs: No lasting, fundamental progress will be made towards a compassionate world until animals are no longer seen as food. Although most people express revulsion at the suffering of other animals, they still eat and wear animals and animal products. Instead of treating the symptoms, it is necessary to cure the disease itself: the view that animals are our tools. This view stems directly from society's distance from the animals we use and abuse. This remoteness allows otherwise thoughtful, caring people to believe that animals do not suffer in agriculture or other industries. Experience has shown that many compassionate people change their habits once they receive documented, detailed, and helpful information about the realities behind animal agriculture. VO reaches these people with Why Vegan and Try Vegetarian distribution by local activists at colleges, high schools, walk-a-thons, music concerts, peace and environmental conferences, health food stores, record stores, coffee shops, etc. Vegan Outreach has a new Adopt a College program to promote the distribution of vegetarian information at www.veganhealth.org/colleges.

Despite it's name Vegan Outreach spends a LOT of time bashing other vegans and insisting veganism is too hard and fanatical. They should change their name, because well meaning people are donating to an org that only encourages people to cut back, not cut out speciesism. The last thing animals need is yet another organization that is too scared to ask for what it really wants.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Start promoting veganism unequivocally

Vegan Outreach is #1 recommended by Effective Animal Activism, which only recommends charities that are stellar at:

1. Being the best change for your buck. That is to say, they do the most good for your dollar.
2. Being scientifically proven to be impactul
3. Having room for more funding.

If you donate your money to Vegan Outreach, you are making a huge difference to animal's lives

You know where your money goes with Vegan Outreach - straight to printing leaflets that are handed out to college students. VO provides information to those with open minds, about animal exploitation and vegan health. I've participated in Team Vegan for 3 years and raised a few thousand dollars. VO does not lobby the government or stage protests, so I feel comfortable asking my friends and family to donate. They are the real deal.

I have donated to Vegan Outreach for many years now. They are run by a group of dedicated volunteers that hand out information about factory farming, the suffering farm animals endure, and the benefits of being vegan on college campuses. They have been super successful in educating people and helping them live compassionate lives. Once a person gets their information, they are more likely to help end animal suffering - what is better than that?!

Biggest bang for the buck. Ninety-nine percent of the animals killed in the United States each year are slaughtered for human consumption.

Vegan Outreach is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to expose and end cruelty to animals through the widespread distribution of our illustrated booklets (click titles to view PDFs): Why Vegan?, Even If You Like Meat, and Compassionate Choices, along with our follow-up
