I believe THF was started like many nonprofits "lead" by celebrity athletes - it gives them good publicity. Tyler demonstrated on many occasions a lack of commitment to the mission and to the organization. Unlike many celebrity athletes Tyler not only never made contribution to THF but was paid for participating in donor rides and for all expenses. Many of his friends and colleagues donated their time and money. I believe that THF has made an impact on individuals with MS however do to the lack of financial commitment from Tyler Hamilton and the Board of Directors, it is amazing anything was pulled off. Known for the european bike tour MS Global - the idea was generated by Tyler Hamilton and Joe Tonon as a way to make money from a charity ride not because it was a good thing to do for people with MS. I would not recommend participating with this organization in any shape or form.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Europe when individuals with MS made it up to the top of the Galibier. Tyler could not make the time to be there that day.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
require that the Board, including Tyler Hamilton and his ex-wife Haven, make financial contributions, and actively participate in the running of the organization.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
fantastic. It was the one really wonderful thing about the organization
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
make a difference but not with the current organizational structure.
Ways to make it better...
Tyler had spent more time and effort dedicated to THF
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
the lack of true commitment to the mission and the tarnished reputation of Tyler Hamilton.
One thing I'd also say is that...
running a nonprofit organization is hard and you have to be very committed to the mission. If you do it for money, you will not succeed. Truth prevails.
