I was a volunteer from the USA at this shelter for a week and I was very impressed for the commitment and dedication of the ladies who run the shelter. They clean the kennels and open areas, feed the dogs at the shelter and the ones on the streets and give them lots of love to them on a daily basis. They love these dogs as if they were their own. When money gets scarce these ladies feed the animals and run the shelter using their own money. They need all the help they can get. I will definitely be back to volunteer again.

I have been a UK admin for Trikala since Febuary 2012 and have been amazed by what these ladies do on a daily basis and felt a need to help them even further. I knew that just going by myself was going to make a difference but if more people could go then we could achieve so much more. So I started to plan for a group to travel over to Trikala. Finally after months of planning 3 volunteers from the UK and 2 volunteers from the USA arrived in Trikala with one aim to help to the maxmium possible. During our short time at the shelter we was able to build roofs for some of the shelters, take trees and over grown plants down, unblock the drainage canal, clean up, gromming of dogs and to give the dogs some extra special attention. Each of us who have attended all agree that what these ladies do it remarkable. They have dedicated their lives to this and never complain or ask for anything. They desperately need help to make this possible.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help get them constant funding for the shelter and paid salaries for the ladies who currently work for free so they do not have to worry anymore.

Hi..My names sue. I adopted a gorgeous puppy called Sugar from the Trikela shelter a few months ago...Despite the distance everything fom the home check to the arrival times went very smothly. I had to wait for her to be old enough to travel & have the necessary tests & shots, dueing that time I was kept informed via email. I even had a couple of very friendly phone calls from Linda in greece before and again after sugar had arrived to check all was well. Sugar is a happy, bright & healthy young dog.She has clearly been well socialised with other dogs & gets on with them brilliantly. I would thoroughly recommend adopting a dog from Trikela to anyone who was thinking of it...I have also donated to the shelter a few times, which is easy to do & safe ....Trikela is a wonderful shelter doing so much for the starved & mistreated dogs in the area. I have massive love &respect for the girls who look after the dogs day after day under such difficult & often heartbreaking circumstances...Funds permitting I would love to go to Trikela to volunteer at the shelter in the future & will continue to surport them as best as i can from here in the UK...Please dont hesitate to get involved, adopt or foster one of their dogs, fundraise or donate. They need so much & they are greatful for any help they get...Trkela is a truely Wonderful cause!!!

I came to Greece and was escorted by Linda, Alberto and Lili-volunteers of the shelter who took me under their wings and showed me the beautiful sights of the Trikala town and monasteries. My itinerary for travel was planned out to the T by Alberto and I am so grateful for their help.At the shelter, I played with the dogs. There are many lame or tripod, 3 legged dogs who were hit by cars and treated or had amputations. The dogs are friendly and are made up of pointers, hounds and terriers. Every shape and color available. I am willing to adopt a special needs dog such as Blackie or Lazarus now that I am home...........The few volunteers of the shelter keep the area clean and with fresh water and food.....The dogs are happy and thriving, but many need to be adopted to make room for more needy dogs to be saved. From what I saw, money is desperately needed for medications to treat fleas and ticks, emergency vet fees, rehab and even food. Monthly food prices are $1,300-$2,00 EUROS per month. Food is a must and is provided, but medication and vaccinations are essential and must be added to the budget somehow....Fences and replacement tarps are needed on an ongoing basis.........Blankets and comforters are needed in winter.........I guess monetary donations are the most efficient since all necessary items can be bought in Greece, but plastic Kennel crates with screws are also needed since these are required for air travel......... other types of kennels are used at the shelter and dogs love them for hiding in. Every dog has his or her special place, doghouse or perch.. I brought 4 used crates from the U.S, along with rawhides, collars and many chew bully sticks. I also took 16 packets of Advantage meds for the dogs....... Next time I visit will be in cooler weather and I plan on bathing some of the dogs, since that is not a priority there and they simply do not have the girl power, volunteer power to do the non essentials.......The dogs loved the company..........Please help......They are so deserving... Diane

Hi my names Rachel, we adopted the gorgeous three legged dog from Trikala called Zira. This gilt stole so many hearts, she's been here now 5 weeks and it's been fantastic, I'd recommend a Greek dog to anyone. She's filled our home with lots of love and laughter. I also do lots of fundraising for Trikala doing auctions etc and I love it. Trikala is wonderful and the ladies that run it make the place, the dogs are their lives!

Trikala is an amazing shelter run by 5 wonderful women! I adopted little handicapped Elpida (Hope) and her best friend Shakespeare from there. They arrived home with us in the UK on the 21st January this year. The whole adoption process, from start to finish considering everything these women are up against, was handled extremely professionally. I had full contact and many many updates and photographs. Every penny of the money I sent was accounted for and receipts sent for everything. I was so impressed by these women and what they do that I now volunteer for them, though not physically as I am based in the UK, but fundraising etc. Please consider a donation to this charity, all of the money goes to helping all the strays they feed on the streets as well as the 200+ dogs inside the shelter. Their medical bills trying to help these dogs are huge. Though once these women paid for everything out of their own pockets, even feeding the strays on scraps from restaurants for many years. People like you and I have the opportunity to help make this a better life for the dogs and the exhausted women who face tough days, every day. This is one of the most worthwhile Charities I have come across – anything you are able to donate will be put to great use. I can’t speak highly enough of them! They sent me 2 angels back in January, these dogs are a credit to everything they do and live for :o) Deb xx

TRIKALA SHELTER FOR DOGS IN GREECE IS AN INSPIRATION TO ALL OF US. THEY WORK HARD IN THE FACE OF OBSTICLES. WITHOUT THEIR HARD WORK & EFFORT THESE DOGS WOULD SUFFER & DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH IN SILENCE. THIS SHELTER REACHES OUT TO OTHER COUNTRIES & DOES NOT GIVE UP IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY & ABUSE! I AM PROUD TO BE ONE OF THEIR DONATERS WHEN EVER AS OFTEN AS I CAN. I HOPE TO BUILD MY OWN RESCUE ONE DAY.. TRIKALA U MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE SEEM POSSIBLE. U TRULY MAKE THE WORLD OF DIFFERANCE FOR THESE HELPLESS FURRY ANGELS WHO DESERVE BETTER!!
