My family and I ran into financial difficulties due to the changing economy. After exhausting our savings we contacted Together We Cope. They performed a friendly and thorough review of my families situation. They provided food and clothing (winter coats, hats and gloves) for the family. With Christmas approaching, they provided gifts for the family under their Adopt-A-Family program. After all of this, after reviewing my situation they were able to provide financial assistance to pay my Gas, Electric and mortgage payment so I could get back on my feet. Coincidentally, during the interview they gave me a couple of leads for jobs which looks like I will get back to work and on my feet. This has been a terrible time for my family which has been made better because of the kindness of the people at Together We Cope. When I went to them, I was embarassed and worried. I could not understand why they chose the name Together We Cope for their agency, now I understand. Truly with their support "together we (can) cope". I hope they are always there for those of us who need assistance in times of crisis.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Food assistance, utility assistance, mortgage assistance and job guidance.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The friendly and professional manner in which they provided service in my time of need.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Staff and volunteers who thruly are compassionate about what they do to help the community and how they help the families who come to them for assistance.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Resolve the problems plaguing the south suburban communities they serve with jobs, insurance and financial assistance.

Ways to make it better...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Probably not enough financial resources to help all of the people who need assistance.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This has been one of the most amazing experiences of human kindness I have ever experienced.

WHAT IS TOGETHER WE COPE? Together We Cope is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit agency located in Tinley Park assisting families and individuals experiencing a crisis. Providing for families in 22 different southern suburban communities, TWC served over 22,000 people last year. Who does Together We Cope help? The working poor – lower paying full time jobs often do not provide benefits in case of family emergency. Victims of disaster-those displaced by fire or natural disaster require basics to survive. Single Parents – maintaining jobs and raising their children alone. Families experiencing an accident or illness – families living from paycheck to paycheck. Recent unemployed – company downsizing, layoffs, and outsourcing. Elderly – food & medications are sometimes unaffordable for individuals on fixed incomes. How does Together We Cope help? With dignity and respect, Together We Cope provides food, clothing and financial assistance for one-time rent/mortgage and utility subsidies. Each day at least 45 families’ receive groceries from our food pantry. Because of recent economic developments, there are large increases in those seeking temporary assistance from Together We Cope. How can YOU help? Throughout the year, Together We Cope hosts several annual fundraising events; a dinner-dance in February, golf outing in May, pasta dinner in September, and several musical events in the summer. Propelled by participation from the private, corporate, and political communities, these events offer a variety of ways to participate; in-kind donations, volunteering, sponsorships, or direct dollar donations. While contributing significantly in the support of our south suburban neighbors, each form of donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Many local organizations and businesses host their own fundraisers, benefiting Together We Cope. We welcome their creativity and appreciate their generosity. Donations of food, toys, clothing, gift certificates, or school supplies are welcome and useful throughout the year. All donations are gratefully shared locally. Together We Cope 17010 S. The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Each and every staff member and volunteer goes out of there way to ensure that each family has everything that they need. All are the most loving and caring individuals with the clients being their first priority.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Get so much food and assist so many people, we help with rental assistance, gas and electric shut off. We have over 10000 clients that could use more resources
