Horrible job of policing the Franklin Street Women's Shelter in Bronx NY. The conditions are appalling (stained sheets, long waits for beds even when beds are available, smoking in the bathrooms - weed and cigarettes, roaches, staff indifference, food that will give you diabetes if you don't have it already, feces covered toilets, etc.. In general I still can't decide if living in the subway was better than staying at the shelter.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
and they need a lot of work. Seems as if they are taking money in from DHS but not monitoring nor auditing the funds properly to ensure that the homeless are given a fair shake.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
monitor this organization a little closer.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
NOTHING. I will never give a dime to the Salvation Army after seeing the conditions at this shelter. Feces in the bathroom showers for over 3 days.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Nasty. The case managers require a 4 year degree in any field. The insane are shuttled in with everyone else. The staff won't eat or drink the water provided by the place and they wonder why some of the clients refuse.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
hire individuals who care and not individuals who just need a job. Imagine sitting next to someone with multiple personalities and being told by the staff that they are an assessment center yet their is suppose to be a psychiatrist on duty.
Ways to make it better...
the staff had even 3% of compassion for the clients.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
As the homeless population increases the Salvation Army won't be able to continue hiding its numerous violations.
One thing I'd also say is that...
The Salvation should be ashamed of themselves for taking money in and not ensuring that the money is being used properly.
