The Geraldine Historical Committee Overview
Our organization was founded with the main goal of acquiring and maintaining the Milwaukee Depot that sits on the end of Main Street in our small town. Since 1994 the group has evolved in to a repository for local area artifacts and histories. Central Montana Rail sold us the depot building in 1995 for $1.00. Since the acquisition of the structure the restoration is nearing completion. Our main sources of income have been grants. Since our tiny town only boasts a population of around 250 people, we had to turn to outside sources for funding. There are only four of these old wooden depots left in the entire state of Montana, we felt it was important to preserve. Now that we have the building almost finished inside and out we find ourselves turning to the question of what to do with it. The community has used the building for some anniversaries etc. We find ourselves leaning to the idea of making it into a museum. We also own the Square Butte Jail.
