We have worked this year with TellTale Theatre as they melded great character education with dramatization of an historical figure. Specifically we were able to see and have input in shaping their marvelous new program on Teddy Roosevelt. We think the use of drama to teach social studies and character education is a winning technique that grabs students' hearts and minds.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the chance to collaborate on a grant proposal that we both strongly believe in and hope to see realized.

I have performed with TellTale Theatre since 1996 and am honored to have brought joy to thousands over the years. It's a great feeing to see all the smiles and hear the laughter from the chidren AND the adults! TellTale Theatre is truly an amazing gift to both the young - and the young at heart. My favorite show, Fabulous Fables,(based on Aesop's Fables) offers wonderful takes on classics like The Lion and the Mouse, The Tortoise and the Hare, etc. It's heart-warming and so exciting to see how involved the audience becomes with this show!!!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The diversity of audiences with whom I have interacted when performing with TellTale. I have had wonderful experiences, for instance, in small, rural locations where the students had never seen live theatre.

Telltale Theatre is a class act! I have seen first hand how they reach out to the community, using entertainment to drive home family values. John Schmedes and co. hire only the best talent for their onstage performances and traveling shows.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing kids mature and develop. I worked with John on a summer camp where he produced several drama camps for the youth. One kid was so inspired to purse the arts after being introduced and shown a path.

As a non-profit organization, we have collaborated with Telltale Theater several times and it has always been extremely professional and rewarding for our students. Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County collaborated on a Summer Drama Camp at the Mable House Arts Center for at-risk students, Falcons On The Rise Summer Program at Lindley Middle School for students who did not pass the CRCT test. We will be working with them again this summer through the Project Lynx program at Smitha Middle School and in March, 2010, at the South Cobb Library - Aesops Fables Come ALIVE! through the Grass Roots Arts Program. They are great to work with and their programs are fun plus educational. schoo

The organization centers around bringing out the creative energy in every student. The staff is caring and fun and provide an atmosphere that encourages group participation as well as individual effort. My daughter received one-on one attention while learning different aspects of acting and improv techniques.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

how much more outgoing my child is after attending acting classes.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

offer more summer camps and more youth productions throughout the year.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

watching my daughter become more self-confident while interacting with others.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very excited about the organization and their role as mentor and teacher in the art of drama and improv.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

continue to do community outreach with more dynamic programs. They continue to reach even further by providing educational and fun plays to schools, churches, and other groups. With 10 million, they could do it for free everywhere.

Ways to make it better...

I would have offered up more of my time to volunteer.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

location. Not only is it located in a very tight building with minimal parking, it is also located in an area that needs some revitalizing. A move to a larger area on a less hectic street may improve attendence.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The owner, John, has the most fabulous outlook on life. He brings his enthusiasm to the stage and workshops, camps, and school presentations. Not too many artistic organizations can claim that their owner wears so many hats ...and still love it all!

TellTale does amazing work within the arts community and with young people. It is a theater of the imagination and teaches kids how to use their brains and makes classic literature and historical characters approachable.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Really involved with the kids they were working with - they really enjoy helping the children understand the arts better and their own imaginations.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Be in more schools throughout Atlanta, hire a larger staff and use a larger space to promote the arts to at-risk children and children are not normally exposed to the arts.
