Address:

17617 west fm 1097 Montgomery TX 77356 USA

Mission:

Our Mission is centered on the belief that life has its own value. Throughout the millenia, horses have shared a special relationship with mankind; and it is this spirit that our organization attends to the needs of our equine friends. Our basic steps are the 4 r's rescue rehabilitation, revocation, retirement Our goal is to provide for the care and security of our horses in a natural lifestyle, to work with local humane orgs to care for any horse in need, to provide education to the community concerning the health and care of horses, and to provide support for the youth at risk and the community service requirements at the farm that often change a negative focus on life.

Results:

We have in the past had varous events to raise funds for medical demands and what ever the need may have been for equipment repair or loads of hay, medical demands.. We are having trail ride that is focused on rasing money for emergency equine eqp. that can contribute to saving lives 1. a glide(gurney) $2000.00 for moving a downed animal, various accesories to protect the animal(a horse). A Sling to help a downed animal be raised up and support life forces while it heals. A must in many cases as in fires for air lifting horses to safety. . We raised funds to surgically remove a large tumor on a 21 year old mare thought to be not worth the medical challenge by some and she has done well with gifted surgical hands at work and is back at play and a year has gone by and she has been a grand survivor! We fund raise using Global Giving as part of the focus for medicines and much needed money for Vets services , this is only part of the challenge, This year our fundraising focus has gone to feed and to needs that are a daily drive to provide for the many horses we care for our feed cost averages $900.00 (US) a week. Farrier needs for horses hooves is a regular focus as it is a health need as well and we must raise $500.00 a month to keep up, dental funding is raised as it is an Annual care routine at $5,000.00 total a year on the average and this service requires a Dental Expert so all emergency needs can be met . So many horses need dental work when they come into rescue we can't imagine the pain they feel in those lovely heads with loose , broken, sharp points on teeth, and yes infections, We also look to the future, as we will need a new location for the rescue and sanctuary our growth and potential community demands and needs direct this vision. Another need is a trailer outfitted for emergency work that can be used as an ambulance to serve whereever when a horse needs to get to a Veterinarian, hospital etc.., a need many horse owners face unsucessfully as it may take special handling and experience to accomplish this need. We are a TLAER certified rescue, which refers to our work and Techniques with Large Animal Emergency Rescue.

Target demographics:

any horse in need and youth at risk

Direct beneficiaries per year:

countless horses and some kids/youth at risk.

Geographic areas served:

Texas, Southwest and USA

Programs:

Learn to ride , clinics and seminars to educate in responsibilites of horses and being a guardian (replacement word for owner), TLAER education and preparedness, why you want to be prepared for disasters and accidents that will strike us all with our animals, Schooling horses so you can be with this horse forever, Why Rescue?

Reviews for Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary

Rating: 5 stars

My husband and I visited Spirit Acres a couple months back. We stayed for a few hours, I didn't want to leave. The horses just drawn you in. They are so beautiful and so sweet. Thank God for people like Kat and her husband, who own the sanctuary. They take great care of the horses. And Kat knows them all by name and the backgrounds of each horse. She just loves them and it shows.

Spirit Acres and Kat are a safe haven and a loving advocate, respectively, for horses who have been neglected, abused and/or abandoned. Kat works incredibly hard to ensure that horses who live at the Farm are well cared for in all regards. This non-profit rescue is most deserving of donations, and is always appreciative of new and seasoned volunteers helping to make life for the horses the best that it can be. Kudos to Kat and volunteers for all that you do!

I have been and continue to be a donor for Spirit Acres because of the devotion to equine rescue and rehabilitation that Kat and volunteers exhibit. The work they do is vital and important to the equines who are in their care. Donations are always needed, and are greatly appreciated. This is a very worthy non-profit to donate to (whether goods, time, funds or otherwise).

Kat is one of the most kindhearted, loving, and caring women I have ever met. The horses in her care are truly blessed! The Farm/Sanctuary is the only one of its kind in the surrounding area, and it is of great benefit to horses in need.

I continue to donate financially (in general and in sponsorship of one of the horses) to this worthy charity because I've seen firsthand the hard work, the great love, the compassion and respect for the horses that is what this farm/sanctuary is about. I cannot say enough good things about Kat and the Farm/Sanctuary and the wonderful work they do. The well-being of the horses is the priority, and Kat works tirelessly to make that happen. Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary would greatly appreciate any support you wish to provide, including volunteers to help care for the horses. Blessings to Kat and the Farm, from another Kat :-)

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

There are no changes I would make to the organization itself; but I would wish to live closer so I could donate my time as well.

I love volunteering at Spirit Acres & spending time with the horses, and also with Kat. It is very evident that each animal, no matter how small, or how old, or how much vetting they need, is equally loved & cared for. Kat is great with each horse & it is obvious that they love her too. Please donate to this rescue/sanctuary so that Kat can keep helping those in need.

I met Kat in 2006 when I had to give up 2 of my horses. I started volunteering and helping out with the horses (and dogs and cats and pigs and anything that needed a home). Kat knows all their stories and she goes above and beyond to make sure they all know love. I have met many of the adopters, Kat finds wonderful forever homes for as many animals as possible. If you visit Spirit Acres you will instantly feel the loving and welcoming spirit there. Please do visit. Volunteer. Get to know Kat and the horses. The beautiful horses. While helping them you'll find you have helped yourself.

I found spirit acres online and contacted them about volunteering. I took a tour of the facilities and although I do not have much experience with horses, I could tell that each one is loved and cared for. This is a rescue that I will definitely be giving my time to in the future.

I loved volunteering here at Spirit Acres. It's so heartbreaking seeing what people did to innocent horses but absolutely amazing to see that these wonderful people put their hearts and souls into these horses. The people and horses I met there are the sweetest things ever. The photo I uploaded is a miniature horse named Pocahontas. She's so beautiful and sweet. She isn't able to walk right because her arthritis is so bad. That's an expensive surgery. I know it would make me and the owners of Spirit Acres HAPPY if people donated enough to help Pocahontas.

An organization that truly fulfills their mission statement. Spirit Acres is a sanctuary, rescue and retirement facility for horses whom would otherwise be doomed to slaughter.
Kat and the horses have changed lives. She is compassionate and caring for many animals, including humans. I only hope that Spirit Acres continues to grow and thrive because they are greatly needed.

Kat is a wounderful person for doing more than anyone could expect the horses are fat and happy cared for with love the person that wrote these horrible things must be the guy that wants to take Her land. He lives in front and made it almost impossible for her to get needy horses to her place he should be ashamed and what goes around comes around

It was always a challenge to come up with a gift to give to my elderly mother at Christmas. She certainly did not need another blouse or something to dust. However my Mom always had a soft spot for the American Mustang. Searching in my county, I found that Spirit Acres did indeed have a rescue mustang, Sally, who had been abused. Since then, I have "adopted" Sally in my Mom's name. It was a pleasure to my Mom and myself, as well as a comfort, to see Sally getting the care she deserves. Sadly, both Sally and my mother have passed away (within 5 days of each other!) but I am certainly they are both enjoying themselves up in heaven.

Thank God for Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue & Sanctuary. The work that Kat does for horses in need of rescue and care is wonderful. We could certainly use more generous, hardworking people who care about animals the way that Kat at Spirit Acres does.

I started volunteering at Spirit Acres after going through a difficult divorce that left me broken and depressed. Horses have brought me comfort for many years so I did some research on the internet and found Spirit Acres. I talked with Kat over the phone and made arrangements to visit the farm.
I can tell you, upon meeting Kat and touring the farm I knew I had to be a part of this rescue!
I was happy to help with finances when I could. This farm runs on volunteers who provide whatever is needed, (Monetary donations, farrier and vet expenses, purchasing fed and hay and carpenters to keep barns and fences in good shape.)

I felt happiness and made friends not only with the horses, but with other volunteers. I adopted one of the mares and one of my best friends adopted her colt.
Before I knew it I had been volunteering right at 3 years! I cared for the horses and helped Kat in the office. I made life-long friends and i still try to help Kat when I can even though I live in Tennessee now. I am amazed by the devotion and love that Kat has for animals.

Spirit Acres was a healing place for me as well as the horses. Divorced after 25 years, my life was turned upside down, depressed, etc. The first day I walked through the gate, I knew this was where God had lead me. I arrived in 2004 and spent 3 years working hard every day. Feeding, grooming, bathing, cleaning stalls, cleaning hooves - whatever needed to be done. Kat knows each horse and can tell you each one's story. She has a heart as big as Dallas, but that doesn't feed and care for the horses. She needs donations and volunteers each and every day to make sure these horses get the best care and live out the rest of their lives never knowing pain or hurt again. Most volunteers will also donate either money or feed/hay which is urgently needed. I adopted a mare from the farm, she was an incredible companion for me. I had horses before I got married and this mare helped me find myself again. There are horses at Spirit Acres who were brought there to live their last days in peace and love, and there are good horses there that can be adopted. I still talk to Kat and hope to visit Spirit Acres real soon.
