This is a scam. My 7 year old son and I were so happy the day we got into save the family. 4 months later I found out it was all lies. I was enrolled in a program for one year. They would pay my rent for 3 months after that I would gradually step up to paying more and more of my rent so by the 9 month I was self reliant and paying 90% of my rent. That did not happen by the 4th month I was told I had to pay 80% of my rent (I make 8.00 an hour) I was counting on those months so I could save for a car and get a better job. Needless to say my son and I have been kicked out of our apt, and they are suing me for the balance due on the one year lease. Please do not give anything to this organization I am not the only one that this has happened to. Once again I am homeless and a blame them for it all. If they would have lived up to there end of the agreement I would have been on my way instead I am right back to the start. Thanks you did a great job.

Save the Family has at its core the goal of empowering the family. These families have seen tough circumstances and, in some cases, the women are fleeing domestic violence and abuse situations. Save the Family helps to empower women to shape their lives and recover from trauma. Women and families are expected to be a part of their own building process. I have worked with Save the Family, both as a volunteer and as a community partner (I work with one of the community colleges). They empower their volunteers and all of those who interact with their agency with their positive movement toward growth.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

As a community partner, we have sent approximately 25 students once a year to do service and partnered on various other projects, too. As a volunteer, I have experienced the benefit of interacting with children who need and desire support and mentoring.

Upon entering STF, I was greeted warmly by staff and presented with a tour. While on the tour, I learned more details about the organization's mission and the impact they have within the community. What I particularly like about volunteering at STF are the diverse opportunities volunteers can participate in. I really enjoy that STF has plenty of volunteer options that have allowed me to help a great organization and community that align with my interests and abilities.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the happiness on the faces of the families who have benefitted from STF.

I have attended several Baby Showers at Save the Family. I love that they help families build a framework for getting back on their feet. They provide housing, training, and any other assistance these families need to get re-introduced into society. The baby showers are one element of letting these women, who have come on hard times, know that there are other women who care about them and will gather around them and support them when they may not have other positive support in their lives. What Save the Family does is truly amazing. No judgment, just creating a way to get back into life without government assistance. AWESOME!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Each time I volunteer, I find Michelle Alvis and the rest of the staff to be firm yet compassionate. Everyone there has a passion to assist families.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find them a bigger Thrift Store.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Authentic desire to help people with no strings attached.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Wonderful people.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the lives of so many families. Families are the core of our society.

Ways to make it better...

I can't think of a thing except that if I had more time to volunteer.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Financial support. Although they do everything they can to market themselves in inexpensive ways.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I absolutely love that this organization helps families without expecting them to adopt a certain religious view point or buy into some alternative agenda.

From the moment I took my first tour of this phenomenal organization, I knew that Save the Family understood how to conquer homelessness! Families are provided their own living space... a career center helps adults find meaningful, well-paying jobs for self-sufficiency...counseling and budgeting classes are available for all family members. Accountability is key and the high success rate of families who "graduate" is a testament to this fine organization's well proven model. The dedicated staff and 1000's of volunteers who serve are proud to be associsted with this 20 year old agency.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

attending graduation ceremonies & meeting families who have graduated from this program and have now broken the cycle of homelessness and have achieved self-sufficiency.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Serving on the board, meeting families who have "conquered homelessness" and using the resources our company has to donate time and materials for remodeling needs at the agency.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

AWESOME! I have never met a more dedicated and long tenured group!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand services to eliminate the waiting list of families who are homeless.

I served on the board of Save The Family Foundation of Arizona for 8 years. One of the things that I find most impressive about the organization is its ability to stay the course with clients until they are truly ready to be contributing members of society. The phrase, "Not a hand out but a hand up" is not a cliche for STF. Also, the percentage of donations that go straight into client services is extremely high for this kind of charity. I have found no one who spends their donors' money or their volunteers' time more effectively than Save The Family. It is, or should be, a role model for every charitable organization in Arizona and in the U.S.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing the results of their work. I have attended a number of their client "graduation" ceremonies and heard first hand the life-changing experiences of those who have gone through the program.

Save the Family is not a hand-out, it is a way out of the cycle of homelessness, violence and poverty. By providing the basic needs - - four safe walls, food and clothing - - and dignity, this organization develops the whole person. Parents are taught to be better parents, better members of society and to grow holistically. Kids come out of the program with higher self-esteem, better grades and, most importantly, hope and pride. This organization is amazing.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Only as a volunteer and former board member.
