These efforts focus on improving both outcomes (i. E. , mortality and complications) and clinical processes (i. E. , medication administration and discharge instructions). Care for the community is provided through education, inpatient and outpatient services, and the use of affordable home health and hospice services for patients returning home. All services are provided on the basis of need without consideration for a patient's ability to pay. Saint francis hospital earned one of healthcare's top honors in 2013. For the third year in a row, healthgrades, the leading independent healthcare rating organization, ranked saint francis hospital as being in the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for clinical excellence. Health services trauma emergency services the trauma emergency center provided care to over 98,000 patients during the past fiscal year. Many of these patients received needed emergency and in-patient services despite an inability to pay. Physicians, the trauma emergency center staff, and the inpatient staff provide the highest quality of trauma care for injured children and adults from oklahoma and surrounding states. Physician specialists provide immediate consultation or care to patients. The annual trauma symposium provides an opportunity for area physicians, nurses, and emergency medical technicians to interact with and learn from nationally and internationally recognized experts in trauma care. Instructional topics presented by trauma emergency services staff members, and physicians include the care of adult and pediatric trauma victims, care of children in emergency departments, pre-hospital triage and scene safety, and trauma prevention topics. During 2013 saint francis hospital was designated by the oklahoma state department of health as a primary stroke center. The hospital also staffs a physician in triage, a unique model that puts patients in contact with providers quickly. Henry zarrow neonatal intensive care unit saint francis hospital established the first intensive care nursery for neonatal patients in oklahoma. In fiscal year 2014 there were over 670 admissions to this unit. The center is a progressive regional newborn intensive care unit with services specifically designed for babies born prematurely or with serious medical problems. The center is a 58-bed unit with in-house neonatologists available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Due to the large number of medicaid and uninsured patients, reimbursement for services in the nicu is low; however, the hospital chose to specialize in the care of high-risk infants because it was an unmet need in the community and accepted the cost burden such technology usually brings. In 2012 optumhealth designated the henry zarrow neonatal intensive care unit a center of excellence for neonatal care, one of only two designated neonatal centers of excellence in the state of okalahoma. The children's hospital at saint francis saint francis hospital established the children's hospital at saint francis in 1995 in response to physicians' requests to centralize pediatric specialty services and facilities for children in one hospital by creating a "hospital within a hospital. " a new, state-of-the-art 104-bed facility opened in february 2008. It was created with younger patients in mind, providing a larger and more "kid friendly" atmosphere for children and their families as well as improving access and efficiency. Since saint francis has the most comprehensive pediatric intensivists program in eastern oklahoma, the picu receives most of the abused children or young trauma victims in this area. The children's oncology clinic, the only such facility in the eastern half of the state, sees more than 5,900 patient visits a year diagnosing an average of 65 new cases of pediatric cancer each year. The childrens hospital as a whole admitted approximately 7,800 children annually. All patients are treated without regard for a family's ability to pay. Approximately 63. 0% of the children currently treated at the children's hospital at saint francis are reliant upon medicaid, evidence and testament to saint francis' pledge to the community and to those most vulnerable in society, children. The children's hospital at saint francis is part of the children's miracle network, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for 170 children's hospitals and research institutes across north america. That money helps saint francis improve its services and continue to take care of uninsured children, increasing the mission of handling all children that are in need in northeast oklahoma. Saint francis imaging center saint francis imaging center is an all-digital facility offering radiology, nuclear medicine, mri, ct scan, and ultrasound with state-of-the-art equipment, shorter exam times, fewer callbacks, and faster results. In addition to the outstanding technical capabilities of the center, patients and their families are treated to a variety of amenities to help make their experience more relaxing. This includes a concierge desk where they are given a pager to notify them when their room is available; a staff host to assist them to their room and through the entire process, and slippers and robes instead of hospital gowns. Patients and family members have access to an internet station; children's play area, plasma televisions, coffee bar, and much more as they wait in the comfortable reception area. Natalie ambulatory surgery center the natalie ambulatory surgery center offers eight operating rooms, each handling 1,000 to 1,500 procedures a year. At its peak, 12,000 patients will have surgeries there annually. During 2014 the surgery center saw over 7,800 cases.
