PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home.
From 2005 through 2008, PAWS raised the “save rate” at the city shelter — which took in approximately 30,000 animals each year — from 11% to 60%. PAWS remains dedicated to saving the city’s most vulnerable animals. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.
Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia''s animals.
Programs: Rescued more than 2,700 homeless animals and provided clinical care to more than 23,000 owned animals.
I volunteer at PAWS at least once a month and the staff as well as volunteers perform a fantastic job of caring for cats and dogs. I appreciate that they genuinely love the animals and is committed to being a no kill shelter.
We have a number of stray cats in our neighborhood, and as block captain, everyone looked to me to do something. So my fiance and I took up a small collection and were able to get the tomcats neutered and vaccinated at PAWS for very low sums. They are still feral cats, but at least we won't have as many kittens this spring. People there were great to deal with, and the process was very easy.
As Philadelphia's only no-kill shelter, PAWS is critical to saving the lives of thousands dogs and cats in Philadelphia. Beyond their shelters, they are always recruiting new foster parents to save even more lives beyond what their facilities can sustain. But what really makes PAWS special is that they also own and operate a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic serving pet owners and rescue organizations that lack access to affordable basic veterinary care. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year. And with PAWS you have the confidence that your dollars are going to where they are needed most.
