OFA has assisted nearly 100 families in adopting children from the Democratic Republic of Congo and now is working to help the many children who will not be adopted. They are building schools and providing clothing, food, diapers, formula, and access to medical care to orphans in several orphanages throughout DRC. OFA is 100% run by volunteers and every penny raised goes directly to the children -- no offices, no advertising budget, no staff salaries. It is truly a great organization and one that I am happy to support with my time and money.

My husband and I adopted our son through OFA in 2008. At the time, OPFA was quite small, and Daniel was the 7th child whose adoption was facilitated by Jilma and OFA. Jilma is an amazing, tireless force for the children of Congo, who has the best interests of the children and country above all else. While traveling with her, I watched in awe as she faced down bureaucratic obstacles and dificult personalities with grace and iron will. OFA continues to be the charity we choose to support first and most because we believe so entirely in the work that they are doing and in the tireless efforts of Jilma and her posse of volunteers.

My beautiful, loving and healthy child.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Enable Jilma to devote herself to this work fulltime -- though it would be impossible, as she refuses to take any pay for her thousands of hours, and she is highly valued in her "day" job as an attorney.

Our Family Adoptions does SO much more than help families adopt from DRC. They are keeping hundreds of children alive in Congo. They are supporting orphans with food, shelter, education and LOVE. When families travel, they deliver much needed supplies. I know for sure that baby formula is hard to find in Kinshasa. Orphan babies will die without it. Delivering food and formula is critical in helping these children grow up healthy and strong so they may realize their potential and strength. OFA is truly a remarkable organization for their work, their volunteers and their mission.

My two adopted children are from DRC and we received advice and guidance from OFA during our adoption. The founder and all volunteers are giving of their time and resources, with no compensation at all. They do this for the love of Congo's children.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

bring more resources to their work. They need more people and money to further impact their mission.

How likely is it that you would recommend that a friend donate to this group?

Definitely

How likely are you to donate to this group again?

Definitely

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?

The children who go without regular meals. Children should not starve.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

Because I was traveling to Congo for an adoption and felt the need to give back to the children who are not adopted.

What would you tell others about this organization?

This is a strong, dedicated group of volunteers working hard to make a lasting impact for the forgotten children of Congo.

OFA means HOPE for everybody it touches: for the children that will go home to loving families; for the families who have found that child they've yearned to love; and for the countless Congolese children living their childhoods in orphanages that OFA strives to support. This group of 100% volunteers puts improving the lives of children absolutely first. I chose this group to help facilitate our adoption because working ethically, transparently, and with sensitivity to the Congolese people are their priorities. Adopting a child through OFA means establishing a life-long relationship with volunteers who will continue to work to provide orphaned children with food, medical care, shelter, clothing and, most importantly, hope.

the character & integrity of the volunteers helping me to adopt my son. I've seen & read personal accounts of aid delivered directly to the children who are in need. I look forward to traveling myself to DRC to bring formula, food & supplies as directed by OFA.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

provide them with more volunteers & funding.

OFA helped my family bring our daughter home in November 2010. Without their help we would have been lost in the red tape required for international adoption. The contacts OFA had in the DRC helped tremendously while my husband was in-country.

Our Family Adoptions is a great humanitarian organization. They are ran by volunteers only and have no paid staff what so ever. The volunteers work to provide food, medicine and clothing for the orphans of DRC. As a volunteer we are willing to beg anyone and everyone for money donations for these orphaned children. We want to raise awareness about this forgotten war torn country with more than 5 millioned orphan children and keep children from dying. Yes, I believe in the power of people and OFA volunteers are great people helping more great people, the Congolese children in DRC.

Seeing children given life saving medications, infants having formula and not dying of malnutrition, mattresses purchased so children no longer sleep in the dirt or on concrete floors and so much more.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

To raise enough funds for our organization to hire a secretary/coordinator for our Director who works a full time job and runs this organization tirelessly. To do so would mean we could get documents completed quicker, coordinate deliveries better and keep all volunteers on up to date on legal changes that happen daily in DRC.

OFA's primary mission of raising awareness about orphans in the DRC and their support of orphans both in DRC and in the US represents the best in human nature. Learning more about the DRC and the political and social conditions where the orphans live as well as meeting the women who run the orphanages in DRC has changed my outlook and the way I see my future on this planet.

Maybe it would be possible for families interested in adoption to become volunteers with the organization in the US or in DRC at the orphanages to try to learn more and also reduce the workload on the volunteers who do the legal and logistic work involved with adoption.

OFA is an unsung hero in the fight to change this world. The volunteers of this organization are touching the lives of hundreds of orphaned children, in some cases enabling them to leave the life of sorrows in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. My wife and I are priveledged to be served by this organization and to be serving with them. Some time in the next few months we will receive a phone call that it is time for us to jump on a plane, fly to Africa, and pick up our SON. Excitement doesn't even begin to explain our joy right now. As for the orphans left behind: OFA and people like my familiy, will continue to support, finance, and give our lives as we can to provide for the orphan children of the DRC and to carve a chance for them to succeed in this world. Thank you OFA for all that you do! Thank you God for this GREAT organization!

We greatly appreciate and support the work the team at Our Family Adoptions does for the children and families of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their heart for some of the neediest of God's children is evident for all to see and helps make them a top-tier adoption organization. Keep up the outstanding work and we'll keep you in our prayers.

OFA helped us bring home our daughter from DRC in April 2010. We have also volunteered for the organization as an escort for other adoptive families. OFA"s passion for helping the kids of DRC is evident in everything they do. They help families through the adoption process, raise awareness of the plight of orphans in DRC, and coordinate the donation of many needed items such as baby formula. Our family values the work that OFA does and we have been continually impressed with their integrity and dedication to the mission of helping children in DRC>

In 2007 OFA helped us bring home our daughter from DR Congo. In 2009, they helped us bring home our son. Their ethics and high standards are evident in all that they do. We were so impressed with them that I happily accepted their invitation to join the board of directors. OFA has gone above and beyond in their mission to help the orphans of DRC. The director works tirelessly to do all that she can to bring assistance to these orphans. OFA has provided food, families, medical assistance and more for these children.

Add more funding and more volunteers to make a greater impact on the orphans and people of DRC.
