I volunteered at a recent event and was dismayed at the lack of order this group displayed. The board seems to be a click of UT Austin sorority girls that play mean girls at every opportunity. I think the mission of the org is good. The people who run it......not so much.
Having served as a board member and hotline volunteer, I can say that the hearts and actions of this group are well-intentioned. It is a collaborative effort in raising funds for the hotline to help under-served women access abortion. This organization's board are all volunteers, standing in solidarity to ensure all women of Texas can access safe and legal abortion.
As a hotline volunteer, I have laughed, cried, and pained with many callers in their time of crisis. The role of a hotline operator is to record demographic details and counsel the caller to create financial solutions to obtain her abortion. The fund is limited in aid with the ability to only service less than half of those that call. I have suggested all sorts of alternative funding options for these women who have little to no financial security in their basic survival.
While I have my own personal beliefs and moral standards, I have never passed judgment on any woman seeking abortion. It is her body. I trust each woman to know what is best for her and her family.
The Lilith Fund is a last hope for women with little to be hopeful about. Consider donating to Lilith Fund. You might be the difference in a woman's life you love.
